I've been looking through pokered, the disassembly of Pokemon Red, and discovered that Sludge has the same effect as Smog in the ROM. That is to say, Sludge appears to have a 40% chance of poisoning the opponent instead of a 30% in Generation 1 games (or at least American Red/Blue). A few references I've seen online that have the raw hex data have confirmed my findings (here's one of them: http://kusabax.cultnet.net/romdocs/rbymoveinfo.txt ). Gen 1 Poison Chance
I've been looking through pokered, the disassembly of Pokemon Red, and discovered that Sludge has the same effect as Smog in the ROM.
