The Rocket Radar

The Rocket Radar is an item in Pokémon GO that was designed by Professor Willow using Team GO Rocket's own technology to locate their hideouts.[1] When a Team GO Rocket Grunt is defeated, he or she will leave behind a Mysterious Component that was used to hack the invaded PokéStop. Once six Mysterious Components are collected, they can be assembled into a Rocket Radar. Players that already have assembled Rocket Radar on hand will not receive Mysterious Components upon defeating a Team GO Rocket Grunt. A Rocket Radar can also be purchased in the Shop for PokéCoin.png200 each.

When a Rocket Radar is equipped, the player will be able to see Team GO Rocket Hideouts, which take the appearance of invaded PokéStops being guarded by a Team GO Rocket Leader. By tapping the Rocket Radar icon on the side of the screen, the player can see an aerial-view map that shows where all the Team GO Rocket Hideouts are in his or her vicinity. Unlike PokéStops invaded by Grunts, hideouts are not identifiable from a distance and will only reveal themselves if the player is within range to spin it. The Rocket Radar is consumed once the player successfully defeats a Team GO Rocket Leader.

The Super Rocket Radar is a more advanced version of the Rocket Radar that intercepts signals to locate Giovanni's headquarter. It is obtained by completing the fourth part of Looming in the Shadows, a repeatable Special Research that is assigned on the first of each month for players that have completed A Troubling Situation. When equipped, it reveals the PokéStops that are stationed by either Giovanni himself or decoy Grunts disguised as him. In the map view, all these PokéStops will appear to have Giovanni standing by them, but upon interacting with one, decoys will reveal themselves to be Team GO Rocket Grunts and challenge the player to battle.[2]
