Celadon City (Japanese: タマムシシティ Tamamushi City) is located in central Kanto. It is one of the largest cities in Kanto, second only to the giant Saffron City in the east. It is home to Erika, the Celadon City Gym Leader.
Places of interest
Celadon Department Store
On the east side of town, a decorative fountain rests before the large Celadon Dept. Store.
Celadon Mansion
Next to the town's Pokémon Center is the Celadon Mansion, where staff members of Game Freak rent a room from an old lady.
Game Corner
Main article: Rocket Game Corner
The southern part of the city caters to travelers and tourists. In addition to a hotel and a restaurant, the Game Corner is a popular spot. The citizens take pride in the city's beauty and think the casino is bad for their image.
The Rocket Game Corner sold very rare Pokémon such as Dratini in exchange for coins.
In the Generation I games, the player must go into the underbelly of the Game Corner and defeat Team Rocket. In Generation II, it has been renamed the Celadon Game Corner and is no longer run by Team Rocket.
Perfume Shop
Attached to the Celadon Gym is a perfume shop, run by Erika herself.
In the anime, Ash Ketchum expressed disgust at the fragrances and was banned from the perfume shop and thus the Gym.
Scissor Street
Scissor Street, famous for its Pokémon Breeders, including Susie, is also located here.
Pokémon that appear in Celadon City
Wild Pokémon can be found in a lake in the center of the city.
Pokémon Red/Blue
Pokémon Yellow
Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal
Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen
Name origin
Celadon is a light green color, as well as a style of pottery developed in medieval China, Japan, and Korea. Tamamushi iro (玉虫色) refers to the iridescent colors of the jewel beetle. Jewel beetles reflect a rainbow of colors, most noticeably green.
