I'm not sure whether this is appropriate or what page it would be best for necessarily, but it seems like there's some pun-derived reasons for why Gym Leaders give out their phone numbers and/or why they can be challenged on certain days in HGSS. You can receive Blaine's number and challenge him on Tuesdays, for example. The word for Tuesday in Japanese is 火曜日, which contains the word for fire, 火. Misty can be challenged on Wednesday (水曜日), 水 means "water". A weaker example would be Brock being challenged on Saturday (土曜日), which contains the kanji for earth (土).<br>There may be more that I'm not aware of, but these are the most strikingly obvious. I wanted to point out that the rematch difficulty triggers vary across players. In Gold and Silver, all phone trainers teams have three difficulty levels, and the player can battle the hardest one even if it is the first rematch. Early fought trainers like [https://github.com/pret/pokegold/blob/aa2a87cc547e7259f0f21191bb249118580ef76f/maps/Route30.asm#L66 Joey] get earlier triggers (approaching Goldenrod and Olivine city, respectively), while later trainers level up after beating the Elite Four and restoring the Power station. In Crystal, trainers' difficulty levels are "unlocked" similarly, but the player still needs to battle through them in order to get to the harder ones. Also the number of triggers vary across trainers (from three to five). | |||
Now I do not think it is very relevant for this article, but wanted to talk about it if it should be mentioned somewhere else. [[User:Rarecandybar|Rarecandybar]] ([[User talk:Rarecandybar|talk]]) 03:18, 3 December 2020 (UTC) |
Revision as of 03:18, 3 December 2020
Every Gym leader you can re-match has been linked to this page (every gym leader except Wallace (Hoenn) and Ginovachni (Kanto) can be re-matched. Now then, lets get on with the Elite 4 and the Rivals... SpecialK Leiks Lucario and The Celebi Glitch 19:31, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
- Elite 4 done. SpecialK Leiks Lucario and The Celebi Glitch 19:53, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
first
Wasn't this in the games as early as Red and Green? After you defeated the E4 you could battle them again and again. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 15:55, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- That is good point. Lets add it! Something like:
Elite 4 and Champ
In all games so far (and probably in the future, soon to be confermed) the elite 4 and champ have been battleable again and again. Sometimes, after a Checkpoint in the game, they gat higher leveled pokémon.

Gym Leader phone numbers
The prerequisites listed for getting HGSS Gym Leaders' phone numbers aren't entirely correct; both Sabrina's number and Janine's number can be obtained before getting all 16 badges. The Pokégear page also says that Erika's number can be obtained before defeating Blue, but my experience seems to suggest otherwise. I'd correct this page, but I'm not sure what the best way to do it is. --Minimiscience 15:13, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oops, I missed out that detail when doing the table :P I actually copied from the Pokégear table but just changed the format so it looked more presentable. Anyway, the table is slightly changed to reflect that detail now. If there isn't a need for 16 badges to obtain Erika's number, feel free to change it, though i did cross-reference the Appendix. :) ---> AquaDragon 02:42, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Error with one of the screenshots
This isn't how it really looks in Platinum. The trainers are supposed to be more darker in the buidling, where in this screenshot they appear to be who they are in the overworld during the day. Shiramu Kuromu 00:51, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- This picture was taken from the article Battleground. I'd replace the image with a better one if i could. Anyways it looks like it was taken from seribii. ---> AquaDragon 03:52, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Gen V
So, still haven't heard anything on Black and White. Back to only Elite 4 + champ again, or what? PLA 18:34, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- There are many daily battles in Raimon city, Black City, Royal Unova, plus Morimoto, Cynthia, Bianca/Cheren and White Forest.----無限の知性 ◎ DENNOU◆ZENSHI 18:40, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Pokégear rematches in HGSS?
It's already noted that you in HGSS you can call registered Gym Leaders for a rematch at certain times of days, but does something similar apply to normal Trainers registered in your Pokegear? For example, it seems that every time I call School Kid Billy on a Friday afternoon/night he asks for a rematch rather than dropping the usual hints about where to find Gym Leaders. --Stratelier 14:41, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Rematching Legendaries
The article says that you can only rematch Legendaries after defeating them from Platinum onwards. However, I ran away from Uxie and Azelf in Diamond when I was playing through it so I could see them in my Pokedex without actually catching them. They were gone from their caves afterwards (and I re-entered their caves multiple times and they were still gone), but when I defeated the Elite Four, they reappeared. Keep in mind this is from Diamond onwards. Did anyone else have this happen so I can add it to the article? Porygon-man 15:20, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Experience Gains in HGSS
I just compiled a table of the experience gains from rematching the various gym leaders in HGSS (it has exp per pokemon as well as exp per person) should I post this somewhere? and if so, where and how? - unsigned comment from Meltonkyle (talk • contribs)
Chili
Shouldn't Ash's battle with Chili in BW058 go in the Anime section? If so, then the fact about him rematching only one Gym leader he had already beaten that was outside his circle of friends should be removed. Sneaking from page to page... Template needed
Since certain trainers on certain routes in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 will re-challege the player in a rematch just be returning to that route I think adding a template will definitely by helpful. I also think somehow working on the route pages connected to this will help. So far I have only found two of these areas, Route 4 and Lostlorn Forest. -Tyler53841 (talk) 14:15, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- From what I can tell, it's pretty much only Breeders who do this, as every Breeder I went against when I played B2 did it. --It's Funktastic~! (talk) 14:23, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Then that would be an important connection to use, but I think that should be added once the evidence can be completely confirmed. -Tyler53841 (talk) 14:27, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- It has been confirmed that this happened to all Breeders in the Japanese games so I'm guessing that this wasn't a bug and was intended, since it still happens in the US games then. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 14:54, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Guess so, but as a personal statement it can still be a bit of problem at times since there is no control over this and I do not always want to rebattle in that area. -Tyler53841 (talk) 15:06, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Black and White
Perhaps the page should mention that rematches are not possible and Black and White? RS89 (talk) 05:37, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- You can rebattle the Elite Four and Champion as always, and both Cheren and Bianca are available for rematches on certain days of the week. I don't know about regular Trainers or Gym Leaders though. ☆GamerGeek☆ 07:00, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Ash and Gym Leaders
Okay, I might be wrong on some [or most] of these battles, but I need to put them out there. In Ash's first gym battle with Brock, didn't Brock say to stop the match? Wouldn't that count as a forfeit? Then in Ash's match with Sabrina, doesn't Pikachu get knocked out before Ash could announce his forfeit? Lastly [in Kanto], didn't Squirtle and Pikachu both faint against Magmar? We now travel to Sinnoh. Didn't Ash use 3 Pokémon against Gardenia in their first match, while she only used Turtwig? Also, didn't Fantina use Mismagius, Gengar and Drifloon [before Drifloon evolved] against Pikachu, Buizel and Chimchar in their first match? We now head to Unova. Didn't Ash also lose to Cheren, despite the fact that he [Ash] wasn't facing him [Cheren] for a Basic Badge? Lastly, in Kalos, didn't Ash lose to Grant, too? Please clear this up! Many thanks. WATERWarrior67 21:39, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'll answer what I am familiar with here off the top of my head (I can check episodes for others later perhaps).
- I would consider Ash's first battle against Brock as a forfeit. The rematch occurred in the same episode. I'm sure there's a reason for whatever is there.
- Yes, Ash did lose one of the matches against the Striaton leaders. This was before Cilan joined Ash and Iris on their travels. It was, however, a best of three, so did not count as an official loss.
- Grant did not obtain a victory over Ash. Ash won on the first attempt at the Gym.
- The rest I can check later as I might need episode research to confirm some of them, so easier to check in one swing. CycloneGU (talk) 21:56, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- Well, not to sound rude, but, I knew that Ash lost against Cress. I didn't say anything about that because like you're saying, it was a best of three and Ash defeated both Chili and Cilan. Thank you for clarifying the case with Brock, though. WATERWarrior67 22:45, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- No need to start something with "Not to sound rude", as I wasn't going to suggest it at all; it's actually not a saying I like as someone might then take the following comment rudely.
- I'll see if I can verify anything else this evening, but I'm working on a couple of pages right now, so it'll be a while. CycloneGU (talk) 22:48, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure. Thought I would be safe. Don't rush. I don't need to know right away. WATERWarrior67 23:48, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- Regarding Sabrina, I watched the two episodes involved. Ash stopped the first match while Pikachu was being rammed against the floor and ceiling in turn (this after being controlled into a dance). He never officially "fainted". The second match, no one battled as Haunter just vanished. The third time, Ash "won" when Haunter made Sabrina laugh for the first time since she was a child. So to answer that one: no, Pikachu does not get knocked out at all. CycloneGU (talk) 01:20, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Intro section
Is there a source that fighting against a Trainer after having lost is not a rematch? I guess most of the page is not directly derived from in-game quotes or anything, but just from plain logic. I would suggest to remove the second paragraph from this article entirely, and I would strongly suggest to remove it from the introduction (and instead rewrite/extend the third paragraph). Legendary XY rematch missing
Given that Reshiram and Zekrom's capture to progress the story was mentioned, It seems right to mention for XY Xerneas and Yveltal's capture is also required (with the entire hidden box shenanigans originating from here), pointing out that Zygarde being rematchable, then proceeding to explain ORAS and point out Rayquaza uses the same hidden box system first implemented in XY.
I'm not sure if this should be extended to Diamond and Pearl, since it only had stationary encounters with no mechanics altered. theSLAYER (talk) 08:21, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- I guess ideally all games are mentioned; so if no mechanic was altered, the game(s) in question can just be added to the "In <games>, ..." part.
- I guess feel free to add Xerneas/Yveltal then, but make sure to also mention that Kyogre/Groudon in ORAS work the same. Nescientist (talk) 09:52, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
