Ash's Pidgeot (Japanese: サトシのピジョット Satoshi's Pigeot) was the third Pokémon obtained by Ash Ketchum during his travels through the Kanto region. Its voice actor as Pidgeotto and Pidgeot in both Japanese and English is 林原めぐみ Megumi Hayashibara.
Ash caught it as a Pidgeotto in the Viridian Forest. It was Ash's first Template:Type2 Pokémon, but it was not used much; when it was, it was often to blow away Smokescreens, pop holes in Team Rocket's balloon, or scout around to find the way to their next destination. Despite this, it won an important victory in his battle for the Earth Badge, defeating a Rhydon, battling Misty's Starmie when Ash competed against her for the Cascade Badge, and also carried Pikachu into battle against the giant Tentacruel in Tentacool and Tentacruel.
After Ash returned to Pallet Town following the Indigo League, Ash encountered an old enemy. The Spearow Ash had tried to catch the first day of his journey had evolved into Fearow and was leading other wild Spearow in harassing the local Pidgey flock. After being injured trying to lead the wild Pidgey to safety, Pidgeotto evolved into Pidgeot and defeated the Fearow and Spearow, and Ash left it behind to guard the wild Pidgey. He promised to return for it after he was finished in the Orange Islands, a sentiment that he still hoped he could do in Fighting Flyer with Fire. However, Ash has yet to fulfill that promise, with its role as his Flying-type being filled by such new Pokémon as Noctowl, Swellow and Staravia.
