== Lynx origin ==
There seems to be some confusion as to whether Luxray is inspired by a Lynx or a Lion or a Sphinx. I want to challenge those ideas and make the point that I am very certain Luxray is only inspired by a Lynx:
1. Luxray's Pokedex entry mentions its ability to see through walls. Its Japanese name references Roentgen, which 100% certainly is referenced by the "xray" in the English translated name. In mythology, the Lynx is said to have the ability to see through solid objects. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(mythology)), I don't see this fact mentioned anywhere on the page.
2. As you can see from the linked Wikipedia page, the Lynx also has its own star constellation, which also features this much longer tail (lynxes tails usually are short): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(constellation)#History . Also very notable is the fact that the brightest star in this constellation is the one right at the tip of its tail, exactly where Luxray has the star-shaped tip. As a side-fact which may or may not be coincidence, the person who originally formed and named this constellation also used the name "tiger" for it, which might relate to the "tora" (tiger) in the Japanese name, although this is definitely debatable.
3. "Lux" is latin for light. The word "lynx" has the same etymology and also means "light".
4. Luxray's body anatomy / proportions only match a lynx. The lynx has a much shorter snout than big cats (which explains why some people saw the sphinx connection), and most importantly it's the only cat with this type of leg-height to body-length ratio (all cats except for the lynxes have a much longer body with shorter legs, forming a rectangle, whereas the lynxes body-leg-ratio is more similar to a dog/wolf or sometimes even longer, which matches up very well with Luxray's body proportions). On Deviantart you can see some people who tried to draw Luxray as a Lion instead and it just looks really weird as the proportions are completely off.
In addition to this, lynxes have these tufts of fur on their ears which give this shape that the tufts of fur have on Luxrays body as well. The Lynx is the only cat who has this.
5. The colors on Luxrays body are referencing the star constellation: Yellow spots for the stars, black and blue for the dark space and the blue sky. The circular ears aren't human ears; they are (circular) stars as evident by the fact that they are yellow.
As you can see, anything that had been explained by reaching for lions and sphinxes can in fact (better) be explained looking at lynxes exclusively. As such, I would suggest replacing the origin stuff about lions and sphinxes and refer to the Lynx mythology and star constellation instead.

How can you say that Luxray is a reference to Shadow the Hedgehog and not realize how similar it is to Raidramon? --Raijinili 04:45, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually it doesn't look at all like either of them in my opinion. But it does in fact have similar looks and attitude to Manectric. TheBlazikenMaster 14:11, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
An electric monster which has a blue, black, and yellow color scheme? --Raijinili 04:23, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, maybe those two are a lot different, but in opinion it's a lot more similar to Manectric than it is to Sonic. TheBlazikenMaster 13:19, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Luxray is very similar to Manectric, but outside of the Pokémon 'universe', I have to say that it's very similar to Shadow. Although that way be a bit of a 'biased' opinion, since I have on multiple occasions tried to find the Pokémon equivalent of other characters, including ones in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. Ayla 03:16, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
I personally don't care what happens, opinion is exactly the reason why this can't be in the trivia, we can never agree on how similar Luxray looks compared to anything since there is always someone who disagrees. Now who agrees that we should just stop this discussion and just keep comparatives to other characters (of Pokémon or other media) off the trivia section? I believe it would be best for us all. TheBlazikenMaster 03:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Luxray does not look anything like Shadow. The only similarity is Luxray's Mane and Shadow's Head Spikes. If you will ever see any real similarity, it will be when Luxray stands up, and grows shoes and extra hair on his chest, and then he changes colour. And Luxray and Manectric... the only similarity is they are both electricity, and they both walk on all fours, and they may be similar in height.

[Luxray] can't learn Scratch or any other claw-based moves

Zen Coyote's edit in the trivia section is technically incorrect because it can learn a claw-based move, Fury Cutter, through tutoring. Rpp 00:10, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't know why I can't edit this page, but, in fact, I have a link to an external Pokédex: Pokedex Online.com by Sableye.- unsigned comment from JetanHertz13 (talkcontribs)

The page is protected because of some people making an iPhone application. Turtwig A Contributions Talk 21:48, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Besides, I doubt this website is notable enough to mention in External links. --ケンジガール 23:45, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Fire and Ice Fang

Luxray can learn these moves via a move tutor on Platinum...Chomi 14:54, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

But there isn't a tutor in Platinum that can teach either Fire Fang or Ice Fang. Nor is there one in HGSS. Werdnae (talk) 20:30, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Luxray learns Fire Fang and Ice Fang via breeding. I've done it myself. —darklordtrom 20:43, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey...

Is it worth noting in the Trivia section (under his unique base stat total point) that each and every stage of the Luxray evolution line has a base stat total unique to them? Also, are there any other evolutionary lines that do this (I would assume there are, but still worth checking, I think)?--Silentzerox 01:25, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Incorrect trivia

"Luxray is the only Electric-type Pokémon that can learn Superpower"—Eelektross and Thundurus can learn it too. I think I found a way to reword it, but I feel like I should have someone else's approval. I was thinking something like "Luxray is the only pre-Generation V Pokémon that can learn Superpower." Sorry, my sentence was wrong. Anyway thanks to whoever removed the trivia. KyuremsIceBlade 21:52, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Luxray's name and Luxor

For the English name origin, could we add that Luxray's name may also be derived from the name of the city of Luxor? Luxray is a sphinx, and Sphinxes are reminiscent of Egypt. Luxor has the Avenue of Sphinxes, as well. Amphy23 (talk) 20:11, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Night Slash egg move

The article for Night Slash shows this, but not the articles for Shinx, Luxio & Luxray. Strangely enough, my HeartGold/SoulSilver Official Pocket Pokedex lists it, but my Official Pokemon Strategy Guide for Platinum Version does not. In any case, I've been breeding them with Night Slash as an egg move (in X version) not even realizing until now that it's an egg move. Idk how to edit the actual section on the pkmn's page, so I'm just lettin' y'all know! :) - unsigned comment from Jaredhutcheson (talkcontribs)

Sun and Moon Pokédex Entry?

Does anyone have the Sun and Moon in-game Pokédex entries for Luxray? The page still doesn't have anything past AS/OR. In the future, is there a template or something I should put there instead of bringing it up on the talk page?

Thank you! The Poetry Guy's Grandson (talk) 01:57, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Sun and Moon don't have in-game Pokédex entries for Pokémon that are not in the Alola Pokédex, since there's no longer a National Pokédex. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 15:31, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Sphinx

Luxray bears similarities to the Egyptian sphinx which has the body of a lion and head of a man; a pharaoh to be precise. It's face is short, it's ears are a slightly human-like, and pharaohs wore blue and yellow.Robbie (talk) 18:31, 19 May 2019 (UTC) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/43/Pharaoh.svg
