Trivia
- This is the first time Ash has ever deliberately hurt a Pokémon, kicking J's Drapion in the eye.
- Because of Ash's sensitivity to Aura, which was first introduced in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, he is able to sense Riolu from far distances.
- J actually seems as if she is trying to kill Ash, not merely get rid of him. Such instances included commanding her Salamence to use Hyper Beam directly on him instead of near him, having her Drapion squeeze him tight with its claws, and ejecting him from her ship at a great hight.
- The traveling on Dodrio could be another reference to the new features in Pokémon Ranger Batonnage, the Field Ability called Ride.
