Encyclopedia Pokemonica is a pocket book given out to contestants in the "Tamamushi University Hyper Test" campaign by Shogakukan in July 1998.
The book is paperback, and comes in a blue plastic protector.
Distribution
In 1998, Shogakukan's CoroCoro magazine ran a promotion referred to as the "Tamamushi University Hyper Test". Readers could enter a competition for various promotional items by submitting answers to a set of questions. There were approximately 1,000 prize bundles which were distributed to readers who scored highly on their tests. The prize bundle included Encyclopedia Pokemonica, a promotional Magikarp card, two personalized pencils, and a Tamushi University student ID card.
Additionally, 20 "professors" were selected to receive a special Dragon Rage Magikarp.
Contents
Encyclopedia Pokemonica is a very small book, not more than 15 cm by 10 cm in dimensions, as it is designed to fit in the reader's pocket. It intends to act as a real Japanese student handbook with legitimate use to the reader.
- Pages 1 through 10 contain various pieces of lore about Celadon University and Poké Balls, the former of which is a location created specifically for the Hyper Test event.
- Pages 11 through 16 contain puns about each Pokémon in the Pokédex, acting as hints of sorts.
- Pages 17 through 24 serve as a student planner, effectively being a calendar for the rest of 1998.
- Pages 25 through 30 serve as a notebook, with pages 31 through 34 being similar but with a different design. Pokémon facts are listed at the bottom of each page.
- Pages 35 through 38 are generic stamp pages.
- Page 39 is an emblematic page.
- Page 40 acts as an area to write in one's personal details.
