Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Martonimos!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The P, of course, is accessed easily by holding Shift and pressing the P key, while the é can be accessed using Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233 on a Windows computer, and Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a captial B (which is, again, accessed by holding Shift and pressing the B key). The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! 45px 45pxKPF30px 30px 16:10, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Link templates

They're pretty much required when you link a Pokémon's species. Remember, there are like, seven bajillion Pikachu. TTEchidna 14:08, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't remember linking to Pikachu recently... which page did I do this on? --Martonimos 23:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, I see what you mean. In my defense, I'm not the one who made those links, but you're right that I should have repaired them before you did. --Martonimos 23:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

About my talk page

Did you see that I signed my name User talk:Kuki above it?--Kuki 22:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Kuki

I'm not sure what you mean... everyone's user talk page has their name at the top of it. I mean, scroll up, and you'll see User talk:Martonimos above all this. I was talking about other pages, though. Most recently, for example, you left a comment on Talk:Wallace about Milotic, and didn't sign it. That said, you did sign this comment on my page, so I'm glad to see that you're taking care of it. --Martonimos 22:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

As long as you saw it, would you like to read my story?--Kuki 22:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Kuki

Maybe. I'm a little backlogged on the fics I have to read, though, and I haven't written anything in months... but I'll check it out if I have time. --Martonimos 23:05, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Do u promise 2 read and review?--Kuki 23:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Kuki

If I read it, I'll review it. I always do. --Martonimos 23:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Raichu

Why did you put this on the Raichu page?:

=Biology=

- Raichu is similar to a Pickachu, only more gay. How is this possible? Raichu has more colors and more flamboyant features such as curly ears and a long, phallic tail with a fabulous lightning bolt. Only people named Dan like this particular pokemon, which is apparent by the tribal Hot Topic earring Dans wear that resemble the gay curls of Raichu's ears. - If you like Raichu, you must be a real man. And by man, I mean transvestite.

==Physiology==

- Raichu is a rather small bipedal rodent. It's able to run faster on all fours. Like Pikachu, from which it evolves, Raichu has long ears and feet, and stubby arms. Also like Pikachu, Raichu has two horizontal brown stripes on its back. Its long, thin tail has a broad, lightning bolt-shaped end. Raichu is a rather small bipedal rodent. - Semen. Anyone who edits this fact that Raichu enjoys semen will die from the ghost of a pokemon crazed girl who died when her classmates pushed her down a well. Repost her story in five minutes on another pokemon page or she will haunt you and steal all of your pokemon cards.

MathijsP

I didn't put those things on Raichu's page, I took them off. User:Forthelulz is the one who put them on. I've reverted all five of his edits so far, and I was hoping TTEchidna would block him before he could make any more. Luckily, he's been inactive for some time now, so I guess he's done for the night.
That said, this is the second time I've gotten in trouble for someone else's edits. Are you having trouble viewing the recent changes? Because I'm growing tired of it. If you'd like to help me stop this vandal, then please, go ahead, but please do your homework before pinning the blame on me.
I don't mean to sound offensive, but as I've said, I'm getting tired. Thank you for your time. --Martonimos 07:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Move link project

This section is mostly for my own benefit, to help me keep track of this little side-project I've been working on. The eventual goal is to ensure that every link on Bulbapedia goes to an actual page, instead of a redirect. The list below includes moves and redirect pages for those moves that have links to them. By using the "what links here" and focusing on the redirects, I can find all such links and relink them to the actual page. While redirects are fine when users mistype something during a search, there shouldn't be any links that lead to them. I'm starting with moves, because I first saw this problem with the moves U-turn and SonicBoom (which were linked to as U-Turn and Sonicboom), but I hope to one day eliminate all links to redirects.

Known offending moves include:

Phew... that's quite a list, and I doubt I even have them all... If you spot any others, then be sure to let me know, and I'll add it here. As I said, I want to focus on moves first, but I'll move on to other pages over time. --MartonimosTalk 01:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I also enjoy having pages link directly to the intended article, rather than going through a redirect, so I'm taking care of the redirect links for the games, as you'll see in the recent changes. Just thought I'd let you know. :D --ニョロトノ666 01:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Lol funny Politoed Anyway, something is sent Pokemaniac102 01:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I did notice that, Politoed, and I'd like to commend you for being so diligent about it. I'd like to do more to help this site, but I do have to allot time for other things--like inducting juniors into NHS, which is why I'm leaving now. Thanks for your comments, guys. --MartonimosTalk 02:09, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and calm down about the userpage thing ^^ Just keep in check. Check yourself, your mail just incase you got something, or anything else :DPokemaniac102 02:29, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
My input on this one! Make sure that this anti-redirect measure doesn't include anime Pokémon. We don't want the link list of EP230 to say Ash hatched a Phanpy and link to Ash's Donphan, which doesn't appear for another 150 episodes... Anti-spoiler measure. TTEchidna 04:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm...good point. I'll keep that in mind. --Martonimos((Talk)) 04:26, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

hows about Tri Attack (Tri-Attack)? -- MAGNEDETH 22:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. Only one page in the main space linked there, so I just took care of it. --Martonimos((Talk)) 23:04, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I've also done some redirects, although I am creating them rather than relinking what goes to them, and a recommendation: when you look for redirects, look often at misspellings of common terms (Pokémon Ranger Battonage is one I made like this) as they are easiest to mislink to. As I have little info to contribute, I will try to help you out. Theininen 01:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Questions about redirect project

  1. Nidoran (Pokémon) redirects to just Nidoran, since the disambig page covers both genders. So I think I should replace all instances of {{p|Nidoran}} with [[Nidoran]]. But of course, the use of link templates is official policy, so I'm not sure that's a good idea... what do you guys think? Maybe we should move the disambig page to Nidoran (Pokémon), just to make things easier.

Answers plz. --Martonimos((Talk)) 21:35, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Try this: {{p|Nidoran♂}} and {{p|Nidoran♀}}. ♂ and ♀ symbols on the character bar @ the bottom of the page. Theininen 01:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Erm. I actually already did the few links there were. The problem was that the context of the links didn't mention the gender of the Nidoran, so the links lead to just Nidoran (Pokémon), because they still used the {{p}} template. I replaced, like, three of them (on pages Lucky Lucky and List of Pokémon with gender differences). There's one left, on Shū, but that Nidoran actually has a gender, we just don't know what it is, so I'm waiting until we figure it out.
Anyway, this question is no longer in effect. Thanks for your help. --Martonimos((Talk)) 01:34, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
No prob, I just thought that it would work if you hadn't thought of it. Theininen 01:38, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Anti-Combo Breaker

edit conflicts have nothing to do with the server. in fact, somtimes, when the server is fast, it happens more often. basically when two people post at the same time. or one person posts and the other is editing, then posts. -- MAGNEDETH 04:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I know. I was trying to express annoyance that you and TTE got to post five or six times because I had to edit my post each time to fit the conversation. I wasn't sure of what to say, so I just put a "YOU RUDDY SERVER!" at the end. Besides, if the server were faster, maybe I could have had the second post in that conversation, rather than the last. --Martonimos((Talk)) 04:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
ive been there, one time, i was on a page and about 4-5 people were posting at the same time... -- MAGNEDETH 04:03, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
So... sorry about the outburst. This is actually the second time today this has happened; two users started picking on each other on May's talk page while I was trying to ask a question, so I wound up trying to mediate between them, only to find that the conflict had escalated while I was typing. Still, it was pretty dumb to write that edit summary. It seemed like a good idea at the time. --Martonimos((Talk)) 04:26, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
no need to aplogize. i can see where you were comming from. -- MAGNEDETH 04:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

your userpage states you only being a player of Silver. do you not have any other game, or do you just not have tags for them? btw, the first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. -- MAGNEDETH 01:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I do have some others. Silver's the only one I play currently (and I haven't even touched that in weeks), but I also own Blue and Yellow, and I have a Sapphire somewhere, though I can't find it anywhere. I also have Ranger, which is currently in my brother's posession. I guess I should at least mention them... I do have an updated version of this page saved on my hard drive. I'll upload it, along with my GSDS page, when the edit ban gets lifted. And you're here because someone broke the rules. Somebody told you about Fight Club. --Martonimos((Talk)) 01:47, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
the ol "edit the page somwhere else" strategy. got it. i did that back during the server lock down, and back when the server was junk. just dont expect much in the way of user space when the ban is lifted (as in, talks of 5 edits a day sort of thing). and, just as long as i dont have to mention Rule #2.. -- MAGNEDETH 02:45, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, thanks to having everything done already (and a little button titled "preview") it should take me two edits at most to get everything up. I'm probably going to wait a few days after the ban is lifted to make them anyway, just because there'll be a huge flood of edits shortly afterwards (even if it's only five a day, five edits per user times several hundred users equals a lot of edits, and a lot of strain on the server). So like I said, it shouldn't matter. I just figured I'd write up some predictions on GSDS and edit the Fight Club and Dune tags so they have more than one color. --Martonimos((Talk)) 03:12, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
ah, i see. all i need to do is remove the "notice" on my page (as im done with SSBB single player), maybe move the 2nd notice (as its not really important and i only wanted it there as maybe a one week joke), maybe add something alluding to my birthday (as i remain anonymous right now), and lastly, update my Teams page. maybe even condense the whole page and then delete it. and, if i have an edit left, i can do a sprite page update in one edit easy (as people seem to actually like that page). ive got it planned out as well. -- MAGNEDETH 04:00, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

thankyou

Thanks by the way for the help on link templates.

p.s reading your other talk bit, When is the user space going to get unlocked, I have never been able to do it because I joined in the ban. Sailor Earth 20:58, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

In fact you could go 1 step further and teach me how to do Tables and changing your signature. :) {sorry just learnt how to add no wiki so tried it}

Hmm... let's see. The User Space was locked back in March, and though TTEchidna kept promising it would be "just another week" before they got everything figured out, it's been several months by now. I think most of us just aren't getting our hopes up. You're familiar with the problem, right? People were editing their userpages so much that 1) The server was bogged down with their edits, and 2) They were ignoring the main space. They locked down the userspace to stop this, and it's worked pretty well so far. The admins aren't cruel, though (certain April Fool's jokes aside), and they're trying to get them back by limiting the number of times we could edit them per day. The problem is, there's no way to prevent users from editing their userspaces too much short of manually policing their edits and stopping them when they go too far. So it'll probably be a while yet before they can figure something out. In the meantime, some people are putting content they would put on their user page on their user talk page to be moved later. While this seems OK to me, don't do it too much. If people start editing their talk pages as much as they used to edit their user pages, those'll get blocked as well, and that'd really cause trouble for us. EDIT: Ignore the struck-through parts. Nobody should be using their user talk pages for userpages, as that circumvents the purpose of the ban and bogs down the server just as badly.
Doing your signature is easy. Click on "preferences" in the row of links at the top of any page when you're logged in. Scroll down to where it says "nickname," check the box that says "raw signatures," and enter your signature code into the "nickname" field. It'll handle both wikicode and html, so you can do cool stuff like Martonimos((Talk)). BUT! Before making a signature, be sure you look at the new signature policy to make sure your sig complies with the rules.
Tables are pretty hard, at least for me. Whenever I see a table that needs fixing, I run screaming and wait for someone who knows what they're doing to take care of it. The manual of style has a crash course in them, so I'll summarize that here. Basically, the code
{|
! Top cell 1
! Top cell 2
|-
| Thingy
| Other thingy
|-
| Another thingy
| More thingies
|-
| Doohicky
| Yet another thingy
|-
| Second-to-last thingy
| Last thingy
|}
will get you
Top cell 1 Top cell 2
Thingy Other thingy
Another thingy More thingies
Doohicky Yet another thingy
Second-to-last thingy Last thingy
As you can see, you separate cells with a | and rows with a |-. For fanciness, add borders by using something like {| style="border: 1px solid #999; border-collapse: collapse;" in place of just {| in the top line.
If, on the other hand, you were asking about tables like the ones on top of these guys' talk pages, I can't really help you. You're better off asking one of them (probably Jioruji Derako, since he's apparently the one who came up with it).
If there's anything else you need, just let me know. I can't do everything (yet), but I can try. --Martonimos((Talk)) 21:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

First of all, try to avoid making a comment twice. Second of all, it looks like you've got it figured out, so good work. That said, the image part of the box you created is twice as long as most others as a result of having two images, so maybe you should reduce their size so they mesh better with the other boxes. Template:User Jewish, for example, has three images, but they all fit in the space of one. It's just a suggestion, but you may want to try it. --Martonimos((Talk)) 20:46, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

um

it's not thatI make mistakes and have to change it, it's that I have to save then find more templates to add.

Thanks for all the advice and for looking at that userbox for me. ShiningPikablu fixed it in the end but thanks for going to do it anyway. Like I said to Kenji-Girl I'm limiting my edits to 5 a day. セーラー地球 21:25, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Just open a new window or tab. You can find the userboxes with one, and edit them into your page with the other. Both Safari and Mozilla Firefox, as well as countless other browsers, support multiple tabs, so if you don't have one of those, get whichever is more appropriate for your OS.
Now. I 'm glad you're limiting yourself to five edits a day. If everyone had done that three months ago, we wouldn't have a userspace edit ban at all. BUT. Even that is going to get you in trouble, so here's what I suggest. You don't have to put anything on a page at all. You can put the wikicode into a text file and save that to your computer. Then you can edit the text file all you want, without causing any trouble for the server. When you need to preview it, go to the sandbox, copy the code from the text file into the sandbox, and just hit "show preview." If something needs changing, change it and preview it again until it's fixed. In the end, you don't even have to save the changes in the sandbox; just save everything in the text document once you're done. The server doesn't have to deal with the changes, and you won't have anyone yelling at you for making them. I've done this with my own user page, as well as a page full of GSDS predictions, so I can make a total of two edits after the ban is lifted and I'll be done for a long time.
Try it. If you need any help, contact me or one of the other friends you've made here. We may act like dicks sometimes, but we're largely willing to help. Just don't clog up the recent changes with user talk page edits; you're giving other users ideas, and if this spreads too far, we'll never be able to clean it up. --Martonimos((Talk)) 21:43, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. Can I delete all the stuff on my talk page and start fresh? - unsigned comment from Purpleknowitall (talkcontribs)

Not all of it, no. Keeping comments and the welcome message on your page are official policy, and you'll get in trouble if you try to erase any of those. I don't know that it'd make a difference to remove the tags you have now, although you probably should remove them once we get the userspace back. But don't add any more. Like I said, write them down or copy the code into a text file. --Martonimos((Talk)) 01:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

"Deoxys's Four Forms Retconned"

I thought that's what you meant. The thing is, though, Deoxys's forms have always used the French "Forme" rather than "Form". At least, in things directly from Nintendo. Just wanted to let you know. Deoxys911 22:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Wait, what? What "things" are you talking about, exactly? As far as I know (and everyone else here also, apparently), the whole Forme mess only started when Giratina's Formes were unveiled to the Japanese. If what you're saying is right... well, I don't know quite what it would mean, but it'd definitely be important. --Martonimos((Talk)) 23:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
I can't actually remember, but I know for a fact that Nintendo has been using "forme" for Deoxys the whole time. Prima Games as well. EDIT: OK, here is an example. Deoxys911 03:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. Interesting, but it doesn't actually prove it. The people at Pokémon.com could change that page just as easily as the Pokédex itself. If you could provide a scan of something in print that was published back then, like a page from a Prima guide that uses the word "Forme," that'd be perfect. --Martonimos((Talk)) 04:21, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I have a Prima guide from 2006 that uses "Forme." I don't have a scanner, but I'll take a picture of the page. If it's clear enough, I'll provide a link. EDIT: OK, my camera can't get a picture with clear text. But look in any Pokémon guide book that has Deoxys's four formes, and look at how the spell "form." t's with an "e" at the end.
