(Japanese: ピクニックは突然に A Sudden Picnic) is the 13th episode of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, and the 1,245th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on July 14, 2023.
Plot
In the Captain's Deck, Liko and Roy are shocked to hear from others that the Brave Asagi is need of an inspection before they head off to the Galar Region. Orla reveals that the ship used to be her grandfather's fishing boat until she built it into a ship under Friede's orders. Dot, heard over the phone, offers a system reboot to fix the ship in half the day. While they wait, Friede proposes a picnic to relax since they didn't get any rest since departing Kanto. Ludlow, suddenly appearing at the door to the deck, says that he'll look after the ship while the others enjoy their picnic.
As Liko and Roy enjoy the view of the ocean outside, as well as a good angle of Levincia, they get called over to the picnic table, where tons of ingredients are laid out. Roy is about to have some, but Orla says that the ingredients are for something else. Mollie presents the bread, which means they are making sandwiches, and each person gets to choose the toppings that best suit them. Liko makes her sandwich, and by the time she's done, she has a mostly plain sandwich. Orla implores Liko to keep adding more, pointing out Roy's giant stacked sandwich, which falls apart from too much toppings. Roy wanted to make an exact replica of the huge sandwich he saw in the picture book. Liko notices that Friede's sandwich is mostly meat, deducing that the sandwiches made here can reflect everyone's personality.
As everyone enjoys the sandwiches they made, Liko reminisces on how far she has come, how much she's grown and changed since meeting Sprigatito. Looking at the black Rayquaza's Poke Ball in Roy's hand, Liko also reminisces about how Lucius' Rayquaza emerged from the Poke Ball and saved them from the Explorers, as well as how Roy and Fuecoco became partners afterwards. Now all of the Rising Volt Tacklers are her friends. Sprigatito and Fuecoco play with Roy's Poke Ball, and Roy takes out his Rotom Phone and takes a picture of him, Liko and their partners to send to Dot. Liko thinks about Dot, having never actually met her face-to-face and wanting to be closer with her. Even though Liko wants to respect Dot's reluctant feelings about spending time with them, she also feels that both Dot and Ludlow are missing out on a lot by staying on the ship all the time.
Fuecoco feels hungry again, and Roy is quick to make his partner two more sandwiches. However, something lurking in the tall grass nearby snatches the second one out of Roy's hand as he is about to give it to Fuecoco. Liko notices a Wattrel running off with the sandwich, and Roy runs after it with Fuecoco. Just then, Liko thinks for a moment before telling the others that she wants Ludlow and, mostly, Dot to join them and have a good time too. Liko doesn't want to force Dot, so she enlists Murdock with something.
Meanwhile, Roy and Fuecoco are still running after the Wattrel that stole their sandwich. They lose hope when the Storm Petrel Pokemon reaches a cliff, only for it to drop the sandwich and confront the two personally. Fuecoco uses Stomping Tantrum, but it doesn't work since Wattrel is a Flying Type. Wattrel fires back with Growl, which Roy has Fuecoco counter with its singing voice.

Trivia

- Choices: TVs, washing machines, refrigerators
- Answer: All the above
- The first eyecatches features Liko and her Sprigatito and the second one features Dot and her Quaxly.
- During the picnic, Roy chooses the Heroic Sword Pick for his sandwich. Based on the game's description of the item, this could reference his dream of becoming like the ancient adventurer.
- This marks the first main series appearance of Deerling since Celebrating the Hero's Comet!, 451 episodes earlier.
- The initial TV airing of this episode did not feature Professor Friede's Pokémon Seminar. However, it was later available in streaming.
Errors
- When Roy takes a selfie of himself and Liko, Liko's right collar line is not properly drawn in and is colored white instead of turquoise. In the same shot, her bag strap is also colored white instead of yellow.
