Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Force Fire!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The P, of course, is accessed easily by holding Shift and pressing the P key, while the é can be accessed using Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233 on a Windows computer, and Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a captial B (which is, again, accessed by holding Shift and pressing the B key). The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. You will have to register separately for it, as well. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Force Fire/Archive/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! Glinn Mgraw 04:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Brock means attacks from the sky, not flying type attacks. MathijsP

Oh yeah he did........ Looked like I wasn't paying attention. Force Fire

Stuff to remember

A few things to remember when making your edits.

  • Use proper spelling and grammar. Even in trivia sections, you should write complete sentences that end in a period.
  • Spell it Pokémon, not pokemon. The P is capitalized and the e has a weird accent. Like it says in the "Welcome" above, you can access this by pressing Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233, or you can use the character palette at the bottom of the edit box, or just copy the é from somewhere else on the site and paste it wherever you need it.
  • When appropriate, use link templates. You've already started using these a little, but you should still make sure you understand when it's best to use which template.

You've done a good job contributing so far. Just be sure you pay attention to the Manual of style when you do it in the future. --Martonimos((Talk)) 05:48, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, Thanks for pointing that out, I usually forget to put periods at the end of a sentence.

Just a reminder on this. Also, its and it's are different. Its = belonging to it. It's = it is. Don't confuse them, all right? And remember the periods at the end of sentences. TTEchidna 09:20, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Categorization

Make sure that, when making new pages, you categorize them. TTEchidna 05:55, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

"Why should there be a comma"?

It makes it proper. On Dai's page, it said: "Dai, Katsumi, and Maki each own the final form of one Sinnoh starter Pokémon" Dai Katsumi and Maki are 3 different things, which 3 makes a list. For lists to be proper they have to have a [,] comma and an [and]. Like this: Bulbasaur[,] Charmander[,] [and] Squirtle ... But this is not the case when there are 2 (or even 1) Like this: Skitty and Glameow ...

That's why I put the comma there. That was an english lesson from RPP, that'll be $50. (joke)

Shouldn't it be "Dai, Katsumi and Maki each own the final form of one Sinnoh starter Pokémon"? 折り紙ガイ - 離す貢献 10:51, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes it should be "Dai, Maki and Katsumi... Blahblahblah". No need for commas there. Force Fire 10:53, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
No, it should not be "Dai, Maki and Katsumi." It's a long running dispute between pretty much everybody, but it simply sounds better if there is a comma after "Maki." Say it to yourself a few times and you'll agree. -ニョロトノ666 23:12, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Speaking of commas

Make sure that you put a space after them. TTEchidna 03:16, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No, no, no

Please, when you're editing numerous things on a page, do it all at once, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. If you need to check something, use the preview button. Glinn Mgraw 10:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I do use the preview button. It's just that when I save the page, I always forget one thing. So yeah, sorry for clogging the recent changes. Force Fire

And episode titles...

Make sure to italicize them. Pokémon! I Choose You!, for example, not just plain Pokémon! I Choose You!. TTEchidna 11:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Japanese name redirects

just wanted to say, thankyou for helping with the japanese name redirects - i started it earlier and discovered how boring, slow, and tedious it was. oh, and did you spot the mistake in the last sentence. 折り紙ガイ - 離す貢献 10:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem, Willing to help anytime. What mistake? If it was the pidgeotto one, I fixed it. Force Fire 10:59, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
.....boring, slow, and tedious it was. the comma error we were talking about a few mins ago lol. 折り紙ガイ - 離す貢献 11:00, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Japanese Name Redirects

Please do not have a Japanese name for a Pokémon with a disambig page redirect to the species page. Those redirects redirect to disambiguation pages for a reason. --Shiningpikablu252 13:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

It could've been easier is you just replied to the above section, instead of making a new one. Force Fire 22:53, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
You're creating quite a mess of double redirects. I made the same mistake when I first attempted to make Japanese name redirects, but check to see if typing in "Chansey" takes you to a disambiguation page. If so, redirect the Japanese name to that disambig page. Understand? :D --ニョロトノ666 23:22, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh I see where you're getting to......... Force Fire 23:24, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Great. --ニョロトノ666 23:25, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

When there's no article...

And the link's red, it doesn't mean you remove the link. It just means that no one's gotten around to making it yet. TTEchidna 23:52, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Evolved Anime Pokémon

If an evolved Pokémon belonging to a character is never shown or mentioned as having been in a previous form, never assume that it has been in that previous form. In the case of Paul's Weavile, it was never seen as a Sneasel and Paul never mentioned it ever being a Sneasel. If the possibility of Paul catching it directly as a Weavile exists, it should not be assumed that it was ever a Sneasel under Paul's control, no matter how likely it may be. Another example is Cruise, Ritchie's Pupitar--it was never seen as a Larvitar and never mentioned as ever being a Larvitar under Ritchie's control.

Now, if Ritchie were to return and show off a Leafeon, then we can firmly state that it was once an Eevee since Ritchie mentioned having an Eevee in Oaknapped. Another example is Gary's Blastoise, which was later revealed to be the Squirtle he got from his grandfather on day one, even though it was never seen in motion until it was a Blastoise.

Simply put, if there's doubt, leave it out. --Shiningpikablu252 20:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Aerodactyl Article

You don't need it for anything. The image placed there, with or without the comment, makes the article appear more interesting and certainly more informative. Also that image is not linked to anything else in the Bulbagarden archives, and it adds an interesting aspect to the trivia section which by itself can be rather dull. -Lord Hyren 23:30, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

It would be useless.... Its nothing special... --Force Fire 04:00, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Userpage

Goodday Force Fire, thank you for showing me the rules of Bulbapedia, I will follow the rules, but I have a slight problem which I'm quite bothered with. Since I'd like to personalize my Userpage, I would like to edit it. Since I don't got any rights for it, I have no clue what to do. Anyhow I would like to edit it. Is there a way to arrange this? Kind Regards Kilik 10:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Well.... I could tell you now, it's gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong wait.... So my advice is: have a little patience then the userpage edits will be running in no time. --Force Fire 11:46, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Aww... =( blasted.. oh well, nothing more I can do then wait heh? Hopefully it won't be a loooooooooong wait, but that it would running in no time ;) Thanks for your explaination. Kilik 11:55, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Willing to help.. --Force Fire 11:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, how do I help then.. =) Kilik 12:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Also one thing I want to tell you. I notice you created this section by Editing the Sig test section. To make a new section, just click that little Plus at the top in between History and Edit Page. --Force Fire 12:05, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes I know what it does, but I'm not used to that section, anyhow I will pay attention to that from now. Kilik 12:08, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
