Marill (Japanese: マリル Maril; German: Marill; French: Marill) is a Water-type Pokémon.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Emerald
Its body is covered with water-repellent fur. Because of the fur, it can swim through water at high speed without being slowed by the water's resistance.

Name origin

Marill's name may be a combination of marine, of the water, and rill, a small river or brook. The name may also come from a contraction of the phrase marine blue.

For months prior to to the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Marill was often incorrectly referred to as "Pikablu", likely because of a slight resemblance to Pikachu.

In it's original design, Mariil was originally going to be pink.

It may be based upon a combination of a mouse and a beach ball.
