Primeape Goes Bananas (Japanese: おこらないでねオコリザル！ Angry Okorizaru) is episode 25 of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on September 16, 1997 and in the United States on October 9, 1998.

A Mankey steals Ash's hat, prompting him to yell at it angrily. Soon, it evolves into an angry Primeape, making it necessary for him to catch it before it tears him apart.

Trivia

Ash will do anything to get his hat back.

• The other three trainers who left Pallet Town on the same day as Ash have already passed through Celadon City and earned their fifth badge.
• According to Ash, he sent in "about a million postcards" to win his official Pokémon League cap. Misty entered the same competition but only sent in one entry, thus not receiving the cap.
• This episode's dub title is a reference to the movie Herbie Goes Bananas.
• Ash's hat would later be stolen by a wild Aipom. That time, however, he did not act the way he did in this episode, perhaps because the hat that was stolen was a different one, and perhaps because by that point he was more mature. (Ironically, when this same Aipom, albeit this time under his ownership, stole his hat a second time, he reacted in a manner similar to how he acted with Mankey (in this case shouting and chasing it).

Errors

• In Mystery at the Lighthouse, Professor Oak tells Ash that Gary has caught 45 Pokémon. However, in this episode, Professor Oak tells Ash that Gary has caught 30 Pokémon.
• The writing on the Poké Ball in the advertisement is spelled "POCKEMON LEAG". This was not corrected in the dub, possibly as it is hard to read anyway.
• When Ash reaches for his hat after climbing the tree, the hat is facing backward on Mankey's

head. But in the next shot where Ash is knocked to the ground, the hat is facing forward.

• The half-focused eyes on Misty's face appear twice when she comments on Ash's "Donut Pokémon":

both before and after her lips start moving.

Dub edits

• Professor Oak's poem:
  • English: Everyday it's cake and tea/Just my Pokémon and me
  • Japanese: Eat Pokémon and premonitions/Delicious isn't it?
• Brock's rice balls are called donuts.
• When the narrator asks if Ash can catch up with his rivals in the dub, the original had him remembering Professor Oak's words about catching Pokémon.
