So, what does everyone think? TTEchidnaGSDS! 06:00, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I love it but I think manual of style should be capitalized. It's the best article on the website! (i think)PokeManiac102 06:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I like it as well. File:Ani413MS.gifAgggron (Talk | Edits)File:Ani412MS.gif
- To think I started this...Optimatum♏Talk|♊Hi 07:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Niiiice. :0 A...although the Help:Editing article kinda sucks. Lol. Tina δ♫ 16:47, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Uh... TTE? In the includeonly parts, it includes your signature.. uh, could that be fixed..? Tina δ♫ 18:38, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I fixed it. I tried to make it includeonly the tildes. Maybe if I do them individually... TTEchidnaGSDS! 22:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nope. Still no. We gotta sign it manually. TTEchidnaGSDS! 22:59, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Two Questions
1. Can we add ==Welcome
to the top of the template?
2. Can an admin (*coughs at TTEchidna*) make a bot that will automatically put this on a user's talk page when their account is created?
Thanks. --Theryguy512 21:35, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Bytes
Why do we have to put the subst: thing in? When we do, we waste about 1900 bytes. But if we just put the {{welcome}} thing, we waste only 13 bytes.PokeManiac102 17:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Because, having it update automatically on alllll those new usertalk pages is a pain in the ass for a server. Sure, we do it for our signatures too but let's not be hard on our server.. Tina δ♫ 19:35, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Request
Ask the new suers to make more contribs in the main namespace. PLEASE??? OptimatumTalk|♊09:16 14 Mar 2008
- I was about to say something about how most edits are in the user namespace and how people should actually contribute... seriously though, I think this should be added /: Seeing all these fanfic edits and whatnot are rather depressing! Tina δ♫ 20:58, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, I've thought about it. Should we add a section that says:
- BULBAPEDIA IS NOT WIKIPEDIA. BULBAPEDIA HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LICENSE AND STYLE.
Just wondering...Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links07:46 18 May 2008
I was reading this and...

Automatic signature!
I figured out how to do an automatic signature! Check here and here! I can't add it because only sysops can edit the template. Here's the code I used:
--~<noinclude></noinclude>~<noinclude></noinclude>~<noinclude></noinclude>~
It only works if you use {{SUBST:}}, it just displays --~~~~ if you use the template code. Shiny Noctowl 20:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Grammar error
"A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here."
The comma should be removed between the words "problem" and "can". Also, I think it was unnecessary to put that a capital "P" is typed with Shift+p. --Shiny Noctowl 13:29, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Done. I messed around with the explanation for typing é as well, since "Alt + 0233" isn't the clearest explanation in my eyes... -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 22:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
So each and every time I edit this...
It looks more and more like a wall of text that I'm sure new users often ignore. Any ideas on how to remedy this? TTEchidna 09:24, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Make the text size smaller. :) Glinn Mgraw 09:41, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hooray. The only thing ore fun than a wall of text is a hard-to-see wall of text. Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 09:44, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- The things that have been added recently were mostly in response to specific issues. Maybe we can review the things in the welcome and see if any aren't really pertinent to the wiki anymore. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 09:44, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps we should turn it into show-hide sections when we get that coding up and running? You can't really stop users from ignoring it, but if it looks like a less daunting read (divided into sections, etc), then people might read at least part of it. Who knows. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:52, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- So have we got that coding up yet? Should we make it more attention-getting? TTEchidna 01:43, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, User:Poke is the one doing the coding... I think he either became busy with something else, or forgot about it. I'll ask him if he can finish it up. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Strong suggestion
Please put some mention of the userpage ban on here! Zurqoxn 20:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- It'll be outdated soon anyway, we're not taking them away forever. TTEchidna 23:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
No remove
Should we include a notice at the bottom about not removing the message unless moving it to an archive? Gywall(Talk) 21:51, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
We should, but put it in bold. PL12 21:52, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- That would be a good idea. Also something about blanking pages. TESHIGIGAS 21:54, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Things like that should be in bold so they don't look over it. PL12 21:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
A small question
Can anybody put this on a talk page of a new user? The only thing that concerns me is the signature - should the welcome message have a signature of an administrator or well-known user? UltimateSephiroth (user · talk · contrib) 22:27, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Anyone can welcome people. Just
{{subst:welcome}}
and hit save. You don't need to be in a position of power to do the welcome. TTEchidna 00:23, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Ya know
I really think we could afford to cull some of this. Most of the things that have been added in the past few months now have there own specific policy pages we could link to, and I think users are about as likely to read them as they are a wall of text this large. The last three bullet points, for example, refer to the userspace policy which is already linked. And perhaps we ought to put more emphasis on reading things like the style primer, which is certainly more digestible than the full-fledged MOS.
Of course, I'm hoping others will be able to come up with more ideas to help out. Compare our welcome template to ones like this one; it conveys fewer ideas, but is far more succinct and links to important pages. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I feel it's an important problem to solve. --Martonimos 09:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
