Gary Oak (Japanese: オーキド シゲル Shigeru Ōkido, Brazilian: Gary Carvalho) is the prime rival of Ash, and grandson of Professor Oak. He started out as a snot-nosed brat -- like his game counterpart, Blue -- but eventually matured and became a Pokémon researcher like his grandfather. He is voiced in Japanese by 小林優子 Yūko Kobayashi, in English by Matthew Mitler, and in Brazilian-Portuguese by Rodrigo Andreatto.
His Japanese name is derived from Shigeru Miyamoto, who is sometimes seen as a rival of Satoshi Tajiri.
