Hareta's Empoleon (Japanese: ハレタのエンペルト Hareta's Emperte) is the first Pokémon owned by Hareta in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!.
When Hareta first chose Piplup they got off on the wrong foot when Piplup ended up in Hareta's mouth due to him attempting to open the Poké Ball by biting it. However the two soon made friends later when a wild Onix went crazy due to experiments by Team Galactic. Hareta and Piplup then traveled together with Mitsumi while earning badges and battling Team Galactic until a showdown with Cyrus left them separated from Mitsumi and washed up in Canalave City where they met Byron.
After more training, they continued their fight against Team Galactic, along the way Piplup helped Hareta battle and catch Regigigas at Snowpoint Temple to prepare for the showdown at Team Galactic HQ, where they had to battle Mitsumi who was temporarily brought back as a member of Team Galactic. Eventually the building was set to self-destruct as Cyrus escaped in a helicopter, but both Hareta and Mitsumi were saved by Jun on his Dragonite. It was at this point Hareta noted that Piplup was now in extremely poor condition, Mitsumi explained this however by pointing out it's held Everstone and that it's small body could not contain all it's power. the Everstone was originally supposed to be removed before Hareta's initial battle with Cyrus, however things had gotten out of hand too quickly. Once the Everstone was removed, Piplup immediately evolved into Prinplup and then Empoleon.
Since then, Empoleon has participated in battles at both the Spear Pillar and Pokémon League.
