Hareta (Japanese: ハレタ) is the main character of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure and the adopted grandson of Professor Rowan. He is loosely based on Lucas, although his hairstyle is very different. Hareta is an energetic and athletic young boy who likes playing with wild Pokémon. He has the ability to easily communicate with Pokémon, so he lived in a forest with them for four years. Hareta is able to climb as high as an Aipom, eat bark like a Bidoof and swim as fast as a Magikarp. Rowan eventually contacted him again when he wanted Hareta's assistance in finding Dialga. He has a habit of trying to eat anything that is available, as seen in his Poké Ball, badge, and even his Pokémon, Piplup. Hareta refers to Professor Rowan as his grandfather, but Rowan told Mitsumi that he is looking after him "for a good friend".

• Empoleon - Hareta chose Piplup as his partner to save Mitsumi from a rampaging Onix in the forest. It later evolved into Prinplup and then into Empoleon when Mitsumi removed its Everstone.
• Shinx - Caught to show Mitsumi and Jun he could catch a Pokémon. Shinx evolved into Luxio while on Iron Island and later into Luxray in a battle against Kōya.
• Misdreavus - Caught in Eterna Forest. Hareta has since used its Astonish to scare Mitsumi and Gardenia.
• Lucario - Hareta was given the egg containing Riolu by Riley. Riolu evolved into Lucario in the battle against Candice.
• Onix - Caught on Iron Island.
• Geodude - Caught on Iron Island.
• Zubat - Caught on Iron Island.
• Regigigas - With the help of Candice and her three Regis, he could enter the Snowpoint Temple. He caught it after they would stop Team Galactic.
• Kadabra - Used in the battle against Mitsumi, it used Skill Swap to swap abilities with Regigigas.
• Minun - Received egg from Kaisē at the Pokémon League. Hatched at Stark Mountain.
