Nurse Joy's Chansey (Japanese: ジョーイのラッキー Joy's Lucky) is a Pokémon owned by almost every Nurse Joy in the Pokémon anime. Some are played by 半場友恵 Tomoe Hanba or 川上とも子 Tomoko Kawakami in the Japanese version. In the English dub they are played by Rachael Lillis (4Kids dub) and by Sarah Natochenny and Emily Jenness (TPCi dub).
The first time a Chansey appeared under Joy's ownership was in Pokémon Emergency! Two Chansey wheeled Ash's Pikachu into the emergency room after it had used up all its energy to protect Ash from a flock of Spearow. Since then, they have been featured in nearly every Pokémon Center.
Several Chansey have appeared more prominently than others. The one owned by the Nurse Joy in Overjoyed! was not only a good nurse, but a good battler as well. She was able to defeat Ash's Corphish in an informal battle the two had. Another Chansey, in The Joy of Pokémon, traveled on a kayak with its Nurse Joy from island to island to treat injured Pokémon. Jessie of Team Rocket once befriended a Chansey, which later met back up with her, having evolved into Blissey. She appeared in Ignorance is Blissey.
In All Dressed Up with Somewhere to Go, a Nurse Joy wore a Chansey hat, both as a reference to her Pokémon and to follow the cosplaying theme. Brock's Happiny was assisted in hatching by a Nurse Joy and her Chansey in One Big Happiny Family, a reference to the baby Pokémon's evolved form.
