The Johto Safari Zone allows the player to customize the areas. The customization allows the player to move where all six of the areas of the Safari Zone are. This is useful so the player does not have to walk and use up some of their steps should the player wishes to find a Pokémon that is only in the desert area. All the player must do is slide the areas around using the touch screen. All the areas have exits at the same place so there are no combination that the player cannot do. In total, there are 720 permutations.

Exploring the Johto Safari Zone

The Johto Safari Zone is a special Pokémon preserve where Trainers can enter to capture certain types of Pokémon. The Johto Safari Zone will make its debut appearance in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, where it will be located northwest of Cianwood, and a previously unknown route will have to be traveled through to get there.

The island Cianwood City has been on has been enlarged from Gold, Silver, and Crystal in order to fit that route and the Safari Zone in. To access the Safari Zone, there will be a cave, on the northwest side of Cianwood, which can be entered to access another area, a previously unknown route, which will lead to the Safari Zone.

Like other Safari Zones, for $500, the player will receive 30 Safari Balls. With a large area to cover, Trainers must plan out their destination so as to arrive in time to capture all the Pokémon they want. When a wild Pokémon appears, no Pokémon may be sent out to battle it: catching Pokémon here, as in all Safari Zones, requires sheer luck. There are four options in the battle screen: Throw a Safari Ball, throw bait, throw a rock, and run away. Throwing bait makes a Pokémon less likely to run, but makes it harder to catch; while throwing a rock does the reverse, making it easier to catch but more likely to run.

The five areas of the Safari Zone

The Johto Safari Zone allows the player to customize the areas. The customization allows the player to move where all six of the areas of the Safari Zone are. This is useful so the player does not have to walk and use up some of their steps should the player wishes to find a Pokémon that is only in the desert area. All the player must do is slide the areas around using the touch screen. All the areas have exits at the same place so there are no combination that the player cannot do. In total, there are 720 permutations.

In total, there are five areas:

  • Forest area
  • Grassland area
  • Pond area
  • Desert area
  • Cave area

Pokémon

There are three Pokémon confirmed that are located in the desert area of the Safari Zone; Sandshrew, Tauros, and Rhyhorn.
