Woodruff
Woodruff (Japanese: モリオ Morio) is a character of the day who appeared in A Sappy Ending.
Woodruff is a ranger for the Forest and Wildlife Bureau, in an area close to Violet City. He told Ash that he was free to catch as many Heracross as he wanted, but warned that he might unintentionally disturb the balance of nature. Woodruff describes a case of commensalism in which the Heracross' strong teeth make the tree sap available to the Butterfree to feed on. Misty notes that the forest is in a terrible condition, which Woodruff explains is the effect of the invading Pinsir which go unchallenged by the peaceful Heracross.
Woodruff guides Ash and his friends to the Pinsir forest, suspecting something may be amiss with the Pinsir and their usual territory. All signs, including a destroyed rope bridge and a Pinsir mecha point to human intervention, and he soon spots the culprits, Team Rocket. He assists the group and Heracross to defeat Team Rocket, and the Pinsir immediately return to their side of the forest.
