Booby Bird?

Quaxly's blue feet makes it resemble a booby bird of some kind since they also have blue feet. - unsigned comment from Galefuun (talkcontribs)

Name

Quaxly's name may be derived from a Basque spelling for "Quack", hence the use of 'x'. This would tie in with the whole Spain theme the region is apparently based on (as controversial as this may be, considering the whole nationalism conflict they have going on). - unsigned comment from CroissantBoe (talkcontribs)

It also is likely its name is based on Don Quixote, it has the hat too.

- unsigned comment from Komi028 (talkcontribs)

The more I think about it, Quaxly is clearly Basque (the X, the hat). I don't think Don Quixote has a lot in common aside from the X (which may actually be just Old Spanish languages using the letter more), as the character is cannonically from La Mancha which is in Castilla. - unsigned comment from CroissantBoe (talkcontribs)
Is it really Basque though? I looked it up and the Basque onomatopoeia for duck sounds/duck calling are "karra karra" or "par par". the word for quack (as in the noun) in Basque according to Google Translate is even "karraro". I think Don Quixote is a slightly more likely inspiration (although we don't know anything about its evolved forms yet, so i'm happy with the page just saying that it's a generic sailor-ish duck mon until we get more info). I think Quixote could be part of it, but we'll need to see if the rest of the evolutionary line shares the reference.--Kodakami (talk) 02:08, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Quaxly's name could be a combination of "Quack" and "Exactly", given the description of its personality ("earnest and tidy"). "Exactly" lends the "-ly" and the "x", while the short "a" ties them together.--Kodakami (talk) 01:57, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Feels like too much of a stretch tbh. like you have to pretty much mangle the word "exactly" into just "a", "x", and "-ly" to fit it into Quaxly's name. Anzasquiddles (talk) 12:01, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

'quack' + 'sly'. 'cks' becomes 'x' ReignBough (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

A friend of mine brought up this same possibility, but I can't see the connection to Quaxly being sly - at least not enough to base it's name on. A counter example might be Bonsly, whose family line deceives you into thinking they're trees, so, sly enough to be named after it.--Kodakami (talk) 18:46, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

The symbol in his head is one of the political parties in Spain, PP (Partido Popular/Popular Party).
The symbology is upside dowm but it clearly looks like it because if you rotate it in combination with the PP main color (blue) looks close to identical. - unsigned comment from Xyruux (talkcontribs)

Personally, I highly doubt they would make any reference to any political party in a Pokémon's design. Or the symbol in Quaxly's head is a stylized wave? because it's a Water type??
More specifically though i think it's supposed to be like a stylized emblem on sailor's hats. like how sailor hats usually have an anchor or bird or national emblem or something on its front; on Quaxly it's a wave. Anzasquiddles (talk) 04:36, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
The similarity to the PP logo and colors is really striking and interesting, but I agree with Landfish7 that it is extremely unlikely that the Pokémon Company would choose to do this. Firstly, basing a Pokémon's design on a political party could backfire for them in a number of ways, particularly if that party is suddenly the subject of seriously bad press. And secondly, I think it would be very unusual to incorporate the official logo (even modified), since that would require not only permanently tying the character to the political organization, but also paying a licensing fee. I think it's possible we'll find that the hat design has some other significance that will become apparent when Quaxly's evolutionary forms are revealed. --Kodakami (talk) 19:15, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Resemblance to Ducklett?

Maybe I'm looking way too far into things, but this lil' guy reminds me of Ducklett. Probably coincidental, but maybe trivia worthy? Champion Averie, signing off! (Need anything?) 17:46, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

"This Pokémon resembles another Pokémon" isn't that trivia worthy, imo. like, Caterpie and Wurmple are both caterpillars, that doesn't imply anything beyond the fact. Unless it's something that's explicitly mentioned in behind the scenes info (like in the trivia section for Aurorus's page, designer Hitoshi Ariga mentioned that he chose to base Aurorus on the Amargasaurus to make it distinct from similar long-necked dinosaur mons like Deino and Meganium). Anzasquiddles (talk) 19:06, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Quaxly sure does look a bit like Ducklett, I agree. I was never a fan of Ducklett's bland design, so to me, Quaxly's design is what Ducklett should have looked like from the start. That said, I don't think there's any relation besides them both being blue ducks, along with Golduck. --Kodakami (talk) 19:21, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

national dex

quaxly's national dex number is 912. - unsigned comment from AxewBowser2022 (talkcontribs)

How do you know?? --Neos (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
They're likely guessing based on the regional dex numbers from the trailers, but we could always end up with a Victini situation, so it's best to wait till release. Landfish7 20:30, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
