The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 16:04, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Battle Facility Listings

Hey, thanks for taking on updating the Battle facility listings, especially from older games. I started that over 5 years ago, got sidetracked too many times. I basically have a spreadsheet with all the data and templates parsed out, but it still requires copy-pasting to each individual page, and also figuring out how to split pages due to template size limits. If you're still doing this and need anything from me, let me know. TehPerson (talk) 00:22, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Sandbox

You don't need to remove the template after testing things there. --Bfdifan2006 (T/C) 17:57, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Fair, but the page is already slow to load and I didn't want to contribute to that any more than necessary Lagnic (talk) 18:07, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Okay. In that case, I can remove my learnlist template from there. If you want to see it, go to this page. --Bfdifan2006 (T/C) 19:56, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Super Contest accessory images

Hey, I've been thinking about how you uploaded images for Super Contest opponents in 2 sets with some of the sprites being cropped to the standard Gen IV size and then showing the full accessories via screenshots of the Visual Competition stage. I think I've found a better way to do it using css overflow: [1]. By doing something like this we could keep party templates and the list of opponents page from being stretched while allowing the uncropped images to be accessed on the Archives and used on the Visual Competition page without having near duplicate files uploaded. Let me know what you think.--MisterE13 20:00, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

I like it a lot. Vertical alignment of -48 was too low for the larger Pokémon like Rusty & Jumpy, and fitting them "in frame" means the smaller Pokémon (which is most of them) are quite low, but it definitely works better. Bit of a shame in one way, I spent a fair amount of time getting those sprites right, but it was a concern of mine that someone would come along in a few years, upload the full sized ones with good intentions, and ruin my nice neat tables
Really glad that you like it! My preference would actually be if you could reupload transparent images showing all the accessories over the sprite filenames. I would rather have those instead of the contest stage background. Maybe uploading them that way would also fix some of the alignments? I think the ideal would be to center them the same way the regular battle sprites are.--MisterE13 21:07, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
I forgot Bulbapedia doesn't like emojis, half my last message got cut off. I see where you're coming from, I'll upload a few of the bigger ones after work tomorrow and we can play around with them, see if they'll align properly. I'm not confident they will though, several Pokémon are not at the centre of the accessories. Noodle is a good example, the sparkles mean that an 80x80 image centred on the sprite + accessories will only have a bit of their head. We could add new parameters to the template for v_align & h_align, have them be some good default value for most and then customised for a few. Bit of work there, may or may not be worth it. If it falls through, then I'm happy enough to leave the page as it is, with the stage backgrounds. Lagnic (talk) 21:23, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
Looking forward to seeing what we can do with it! I think that for the instances where we're using overflow like the opponents page and party templates, the centering should prioritize the Pokémon instead of the accessories (which we can still show in a gallery/the Archives) similar to the battle sprites. I'm open to adding alignment parameters to the template but also thinking that the images could be created in a way that the same values could be used universally even if that means some extra whitespace.--MisterE13 21:42, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
I've run out of day, so instead of uploading here I've dumped the sprites onto imgur. I've done no playing with alignment, these are the on-stage images with the stage removed and then cropped to 136x103, which is the tightest it can go without cutting anything off. I could upload the original 256x192 either. We do run into an issue with this approach, in that it doesn't actually address your original concern with the two sets of nearly identical images being uploaded. The consistently sized images with padding is an excellent idea too, but it runs the risk of someone in the future doing a well-intentioned update (in this case cropping to content). I'll give it a bit more thought tomorrow about alignments. Lagnic (talk) 19:13, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
I uploaded a few of the sprites and have finally had the chance to take a look at them after waiting for them to display at their new dimensions: Notable contestants. Despite using pretty basic centering system on your full size screenshots, I think they all look pretty good. I'm not sure if it would be worth it to try to bring the centering exactly in line with the normal battle sprites or to crop out the whitespace when they already look quite good. Let me know what you think.--MisterE13 14:58, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
