Magic Guard (Japanese: マジックガード Magic Guard) is an ability introduced in Generation IV. Three Pokémon have this ability, all from the same evolutionary line.

Effect

In battle

Magic Guard prevents indirect damage, such as from Hail, Toxic, Curse (from a ghost type), or Leech Seed. It does not prevent status problems, but rather protects from damaging effects. Recoil and damage caused upon being switched in, such as Stealth Rock, is also prevented. Magic Guard will also cancel out Life Orb's HP deduction without negating its power boost. Additional effects such as trapping from moves like Fire Spin and Attack reduction from a burn are not prevented. Also, a Paralyzed Pokémon will suffer from speed reduction, but is immune to being fully paralyzed.

Outside of battle

Magic Guard has no effect outside of battle.
