The Fancy Cup is a set of rules that players can activate for wireless battles on the second floor of any Pokémon Center in Generation IV.

Restrictions

When selected, the Fancy Cup implies the following restrictions:

  • The Pokémon that Trainers select must be Level 30 and lower.
  • The levels of the Pokémon that Trainers select, when added together, may not exceed 80.
  • Trainers must select three and only three Pokémon. No full parties of six are allowed.
  • No Pokémon's weight may exceed 20 kilograms.
  • No Pokémon's height may exceed 2.0 meters.
  • No two Pokémon from any one team may be the same species.
  • No two Pokémon from any one team may be holding the same item.
  • No Pokémon may be an evolved form.
  • No Pokémon may be a "special Pokémon". This includes Legendary Pokémon.

When it becomes available

This cup is available as soon as players complete certain tasks.

In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum
The player simply has to have two Pokémon.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver
Lyra or Ethan must have shown the player how to catch Pokémon, and given them five Poké Balls.
The player must also have two Pokémon.

What battle modes can use the Fancy Cup

All of the wireless battle modes can use the Fancy Cup, with the exception of the Flat Battle mode in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
