Side-effects are the secondary effects of some, mainly damaging, moves that causes extra changes to the opponent.

Side-effects includes recoil damage, stat changes and inflicting status conditions. Some moves have two secondary effects. For example, Flare Blitz causes recoil damage (to the user) and also chance to burn (the opponent).

Items and abilities are not considered side-effects, but three abilities either negate or help the side effects. The three abilities are: Serene Grace, Sheer Force, and Shield Dust.
