Some Bulbapedia members have formed a project to better organize efforts to write and improve walkthroughs. If you would like to help, see the Bulbapedia:Project Walkthroughs/To-do list.

Project Walkthroughs

Scope and aims

Project Walkthroughs covers and aims to make articles that contain good quality step-by-step walkthroughs that help players as they progress through a game.

Participants

To join the project, simply add your name to the bottom of this list:

Structure of an article

The structure of every Walkthrough article should be as follows:

Top

If the game the walkthrough is on has a remake, it should say so at at the top of the page and provide a link to the remake.

Headlines

Each Route or City should be in the second highest headline.

  • e.g: ==Route 1==

Images

There should be an image for every route

Trainers

Each walkthrough article should have a list of trainers that can be found in that area, along with their Pokémon, and the amount of $ that is won from them.

  • e.g:

Pokémon

Each walkthrough article should have a list of wild Pokémon that can be found in that area, along with their encounter rates and level ratio and area details. Each picture link should have a direct link to the Pokémon's own page as well as using hovertext to avoid the use of parenthesis for minor things like fishing rods, different levels and other unneeded material that would widen the template too much. Each Pokémon should only be listed once per game on each route or location.

  • e.g:
Pokémon Encounter rate Level Area
263
Zigzagoon
45% 2-3 Grass
129
Magikarp
45% 2-3 Fishing
118
Goldeen
10% 2-3 Surfing

Alternatively for the games related to Johto and Sinnoh regions for all wild encounters where the time of day affects the encounter rate then this template should be more appropriate:

Pokémon Best time to find Other Encounter rates Level Area
399
Bidoof
50% 40% 2-3 Grass
403
Shinx
30% 20% 3-4 Grass
396
Starly
30% 20% 2-4 Grass
401
Kricketot
10% 3-4 Grass
263
Zigzagoon
40% 3 Grass (Swarms)
161
Sentret
22% 2-4 Grass (Poké Radar)
058
Growlithe
8% 2 Grass (Dongle)
273
Seedot
8% 6 Grass (Dongle)
270
Lotad
8% 6 Grass (Dongle)

Preferably the highest ratio should be listed first with the time of day in parenthesis and the alternate encounter rates placed in the box next to it under "Other Encounter rates". This template is intended for general field use only and not for caves or buildings since the time of day does not affect the ratio there.

Bosses

Bosses such as Gym leaders and the rival do not share the same table as the ordinary trainers, instead, they have their own unique table

  • e.g:

However the only exception for the rival on this rule, is for Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald Versions, as well as Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Versions, because the un-chosen Player Character also has a Starter Pokémon which depends on the one the player chose and with there being two characters there are six possible combinations. a different template will be used for the rival to avoid an overuse of 6 templates instead of the standard 3.

  • e.g:
Rival Battle
Name Pokémon Winnings
If you chose Treecko 252
PKMN Trainer
May/Brendan
Lv 29 Shroomish
Lv 29 Wailmer
Lv 31 Combusken
$1860
If you chose Torchic 255
PKMN Trainer
May/Brendan
Lv 29 Shroomish
Lv 29 Numel
Lv 31 Marshtomp
$1860
If you chose Mudkip 258
PKMN Trainer
May/Brendan
Lv 29 Numel
Lv 29 Wailmer
Lv 31 Grovyle
$1860

Bottom

Each walkthrough article should have a link to the next section and the previous section at the bottom of the page

  • e.g:
← Part 1 Pallet Town
Red and Blue
walkthrough
Viridian City Part 2 →

Goals

  1. To write step-by-step guides on every Pokémon game.
