Habitat

Kakuna nest in forests and misty wooded areas. Occasionally they will also nest at the mouths of tunnels and caves.

In the games

  • Pokémon Snap: Many Kakuna hang from the ceiling in the first section of the Tunnel. They will lower themselves down whenever an Electrode explodes.

In the anime

Kakuna appeared a few times while Ash was in the Viridian Forest. When his Metapod was captured by Beedrill, it was kept near a hive of Kakuna.

In the manga

Bugsy uses two Kakuna on his team in Pokémon Special.

In the TCG

Five Kakuna cards have been released.

Origin

Its design appears to be based upon a chrysalis.

Name origin

Its name is just a corruption of the word cocoon, and in the case of its Japanese name, it is the word itself.
