Meh. I decided that being a normal user should be good enough. I like having the option of continuing some of my projects, and helping out my friends. I just don't want the responsibilities of staff to strangle me again. Nice, cool, and relaxed. No one say a word |

Welcome
Let me be the first to say welcome back Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 21:15, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
A wild Maverick appeared!
Welcome back - though I'd put this here rather than forward the email you missed. Basically I was going to ask where you got all of the info regarding the new BW collection cards. From what I can gather all of the info is now on the Pokemon Card Game Network site, which requires you to be a member of the Daisuki club - and I cannot register. The concern I had is that I don't have a Japanese source as to get text and all that from, or did Umeko provide all of this for you? ~~nuva-kal 23:10, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- I was forcing myself to actually learn Japanese. I mostly compared the Japanese names of in game attacks with the cards. Anything that I could not either find and copy the text character for character, or copy/paste from one of the move/ability pages, I either had left the cards unfinished, or asked ume for them. There were only about five or six I did not do. MaverickNate 17:49, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- I've also hit a potential snag in the way some cards are named. I'm up to Castform on cards by Pokémon, which is where I've noticed it. The Pokémon with different forms have it detailed in smaller text, but this is actually part of the card name. The forms are referenced as the card's full name in several Poké-Powers and as to what they evolve from, as well as in official checklists, and the fact that you can play four of each of those with the form names. Not sure if you planned to rename these if/when you got up to them? - Though I would still like some input. For most instances this isn't a problem, but the Shellos and Gastrodon cards all have the form in their name, which will need a redirect with the way the cardlist header is set up. ~~nuva-kal 20:13, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I had also come across this problem with Unown. The way I began to think of it, was that the different sections for these Pokémon were not so much names as they were the different forms. I organized all of the letters into each of the groups, even though the EX Unseen Forces cards were not labeled "Unown A" specifically. This way provided a lot more sense into the different sections, for instance how all the cards in the first "Unown" section were the ones from HS era featuring more than one at once. I feel like having the three forms of Castform from Legends Awakened into the specifically grouped sections would be best for it. As for Shellos and Gastrodon, we can discuss that more in depth when those two actually come up. MaverickNate 20:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- This raises another question though, is it best to have for example a section for Sunny Castform, and one for Castform Sunny Form? This is what I was originally alluding to - that I think the cards in question should have the full names in the card article titles as they are with Unown over the course of the DP expansions. Considering I'm going over these with a fine-tooth comb anyway, moving them wouldn't be much more hassle. ~~nuva-kal 20:50, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, if renaming them is an option, I don't see why not. Though having both "Castform Sunny Form" and "Sunny Castform" is a bit weird and redundant in my opinion. Do what you think is best. MaverickNate 21:01, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ugh, I've kind of convinced myself out of it, as the names don't look that good in the infoboxes and it does look daft with the breakdowns in the table. I've edited the Castform one to a standard I like, and I've even put a colour switch in there which looks nice! ~~nuva-kal 21:41, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I tried to avoid color switches, just so that each type and color was featured at all times. The only other place I encountered this was Lugia where all I did was alternate Psychic color and Colorless color. I probably would have just alternated Water and Fire color as the secondary color for Castform. MaverickNate 18:47, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back!
Hi! I was so sad when I saw that you would leave forever,as TTEchidna and you were the ones who welcomed me here and supported my website. I do have a question, though, because I don't know how to do it. I finally created a page of Voltolos (White Collection 19) but the link to the secret Voltolos (White Collction 54) is still red. Could it be possible to create a redirect of this page : http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w/index.php?title=Voltolos_(White_Collection_54)&action=edit&redlink=1 (Secret Voltolos) to the original page : http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Voltolos_(White_Collection_19), just like it was done with Tornelos, Reshiram and Zekrom? That would help a lot, since I don't know how to do it. TokoyamiTheDark 22:28, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Forget that, it is already done :) TokoyamiTheDark 22:29, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Already done! I am very impressed with what you did. There was only one minor modification: じゅうでん is Charge's Japanese name, and I already took care of it. Fantastic job. MaverickNate 22:30, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Demographics
I wanted to create a page to compare the Demographics of various places in the Pokémon world. Did I do anything wrong? TheRevived 05:24, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah. You didn't create anything. We can't have an empty page. It screws up the statistics. make it in your userspace. MaverickNate 05:28, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, I was waiting for somebody to fill it up... I am serious, this is not a gimmick...TheRevived 05:29, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- So, you wanted to create a page, but you wanted someone else to do it? I can't believe you. MaverickNate 05:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Oops... I SAID THAT I WANTED TO CREATE A BASE PAGE AND OTHER PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE TO IT, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PAGETheRevived 23:54, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's been said before, and It'll be said again. If you are not going to put in the effort to make an article properly before you save it, creating the page, then don't do it in the mainspace. There's a reason mainspace pages are called "articles" not "names" - because they have something on them. Werdnae (talk) 01:45, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Reprints
Now, as I am sure you are glad to hear, all of the cards by Pokémon pages are complete I want to fill you in on something I plan on tackling next. While going through cards for the cards by Pokémon pages, I noticed a lot of inconsistencies as to how cards with reprints are shown. With cards that have only one reprint, the tendancy is to place the image of the reprint lower down the page with the primary release in the infobox. However, I have found this to be distracting in some cases, particularly with cards that have more text with regards to different versions, or where it masks bullet points in trivia sections.
What I propose is that we use the gallery underneath the release info heading that shows all variations and have the reprints detailed in the infobox that cycle, as articles with many reprints already feature. I know you personally are not a fan of the gallery when it comes to these, but I'm trying to think in the context of a casual browser/user. If they see one version of the card as displayed in the infobox, they can scroll down and see all iterations, and refer to the descriptions above to see individual details - I just think it structures the article more nicely. I'm sort of in the process of doing this, as I want to add concise info for distribution in promo card articles, specifically how they were for both English and Japanese releases. ~~nuva-kal 21:36, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, sure, do whatever you want. It's not my project anymore. MaverickNate 21:57, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I still value your input though, which is why passed it by you. ~~nuva-kal 11:16, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- I know. But I'm seeing it as the current leader finding and destroying upon the problems that the previous leader had. You know that if I liked something, I'm not completely going to give an unbiased answer towards what you should do. I think anything you want to do would be an improvement on what I did, like how everything I wanted to do was mostly an improvement of {u|ShiningPikablu252}}, and so on. MaverickNate 19:22, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- I still value your input though, which is why passed it by you. ~~nuva-kal 11:16, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Reply
What do you mean capitalize the letters in the template? It was like that in the Bulbasaur (Baes Set 44)! I only know how to do regular moves not poke-powers and poke-bodies. Could you tell me how so I know what to do?Dbeckelheimer6 23:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- You are using a bad example. Base your edits off of Charizard (Arceus 1) MaverickNate 23:33, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Re: Update
Well, I was doing it in lowercase because I saw an article that had it so, so I based my edits on that, but as soon as you sent that message, I started using "Xxxxx". It feels better that way. I'll edit the old ones later, I'd like to edit some more before going back. Oh, and I talked to Jello today about said templates, this one has a problem, I tried to use {{TCGNote}}
, with {{TCGAttack}}
, but the four couldn't be tied in one table, how can we fix that? Since we only have Top, Middle and Bottom parameters. Masatoshi talk contribs 05:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Derp, just watched you edit it, nevermind. Masatoshi talk contribs 05:09, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, the last time I checked in another article, I had compared everything before using it in said article. Guess I didn't this time, sorry. I'll leave the Carddex and/or grey tables alone, then. Masatoshi talk contribs 05:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Dark Pokémon card
How do I handle those? Should I just use the TCGAttack with the type they're originally from? Masatoshi talk contribs 10:43, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Swalot (tcg)
Ummm..... I know I've caused trouble in the past, but I'm trying to stop doing that. I suppose you might remember undoing a revision from me on Salot's TCG page. You say they're normally psychic-type stage 1s, but there are 3 grass swalots, and only 2 psychic swalots. So, technically, they are grass types most of the time. Like I said, not to cause any more trouble ;).
Hama-chan's Slowking (CoroCoro promo)
Do these kind of cards use the "Doodle" thing? Also, just letting you know, I'd like to get rid of the Cardattack templates in all of the Pokémon cards first, and then replace the pages that have {{graytable}}
for the {{Carddex}}
ones, I can focus better this way. Masatoshi talk contribs 05:53, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, there's a doodle option. Also, we'll see about the carddex. We'll see. MaverickNate 08:06, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
User:Maverick Nate/Designers
Are you planning on getting around to doing it? We know quite a few Generation V Pokémon have been designed by James Turner. --SnorlaxMonster 11:31, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- I haven't focused any recent time on it. Add to it if you wish. MaverickNate 16:38, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Elfuun
was confirmed by this. Doesn't that make filenames of other cards official?----無限の知性 ◎ DENNOU◆ZENSHI 10:48, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Filenames weren't used to confirm Elfuun. And no, filenames from the card database are not consistent, so there is no way for us to use them. We aren't going to change Raichu to Raichuu just because the card database named their images that way and even though "Raichu" is the trademarked, and it still applies to BW. Quit pressing the subject. It's getting quite annoying to have to repeat ourselves multiple times. MaverickNate 18:38, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
eBayers stealing and hotlinking scans
Hi, I have been alerted that eBay sellers have been stealing scans from here, but not any scans out there. They're stealing AND Hotlinking MY OWN scans, which my website states the following rules -
- YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STEAL THESE OR PUT A WATERMARK ON THEM!!!
- FAQ rules still apply! Online auctions (like eBay) or websites with *annoying* Right-Clicking Disabled are not allowed to use these AT ALL. LiveJournal and similar websites are welcome to use these.
Could it be possible to prevent images from the Archive to be hotlinked? Anyhow, here' the eBay auction URL with a hotlinked Shining Magikarp...stolen and the seller even put a damn watermark on it, breaking not 1, not 2, but 3 TERMS OF USE rules!!!

Sockpuppeter
I think that I may be sockpuppeting, It is very vauge but I seem to remember creating an accout and then decideing this was all to complicated. Now, I'm preety sure this one is a new account. Is there anyway of searching for an old account that may or may not exsist and if so, can it be deleted? Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 20:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just because you have another account doesn't mean you are sockpuppeting. Creating extra accounts to use maliciously is bad, but accidentally having an extra account is not, as long as you aren't using it. (I actually have three: long story.) I assume you aren't since you brought this up to me. You're fine. Just carry on with normal business, and if anyone ever harasses you about this, send them to me. MaverickNate 20:04, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- thanks Mav, I'm not even sure if there is one but is was bugging me Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 20:06, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
sorry...
I am sorry about the Team Budew thing. I don't know if the others are moving. (Personally, I want to move ASAP but I'm not the leader. I want to follow policies. Team Budew, don't take this the wrong way, but if we cause trouble I might drop out for the reason of we should follow the rules.) I am really sorry. :( Pokabu82 02:15, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
APNG v GIF
Since I never plan on registering on the forums, I'm going to bring this up here.
What was with the massive arguing over the APNG vs. GIF debate in which you kept using the reasoning to "just use Firefox" over and over (amongst other reasons)? Telling people incessantly to change their browser is really not a good way to go forward when it comes to user-friendliness for a Wiki. I for one, definitely would not go back to that bloated, memory-hog of a browser when Chrome currently does it's job perfectly fine with better functionality (like TweetDeck as an extension). However, I am aware that APNG's are not currently supported, and may not be for quite a while too. Do you see me kicking up a storm about it? No, because I chose my browser, and I am dealing with it's functionality (or lack of it, in this case).
How about next time to debate comes up again, you use the other sides of the arguments such as the server load, templating issues and the rest; rather than banging on about people's choice of browser?
As someone who is supposedly a Bureaucrat, you're not setting a very good example IMO. TheChrisD Rants•Edits 16:24, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- I and evan had already stated the other reasons on why they will be staying pngs, and Turtwig Lover just continued to ignore them. So, I started repeating what the easiest solution was for him to see them was. I knew that they would never change (for the reasons stated in the last post by evan), so no more actual debate was necessary. Now, I will admit that I didn't argue as elegantly as I should have, but I was fed up with him. He was extremely disrespectful towards Jello and her effort to standardize sprites. If he was so adamant about gifs, he shouldn't have started an argument in the middle of her project. It was appalling to see the amount of disregard for other peoples' projects and the disrespect to one of my greatest friends on this site, so, I did not argue the best, because I let my emotions get in the way. However, I will say I was never a Bureaucrat for my way of words with other users. I'm a Bureaucrat because I get shit done. And honestly, I don't care what your opinion of me is, or whether or not you think I'm "friendly." I treat people the way they treat others. And I will respect the people who actually do things for the wiki. MaverickNate 23:25, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Aqua Grunt links
I noticed instead of relinking to the correct page, you removed it from two usertalk pages. Do you have a reason behind this, or were you just lazy?(no offence) Blake Talk·Edits 03:41, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that they were being linked from beforehand in order to direct admins' attention to the issue on moving the pages, which is now taken care of. So, no reason to link those pages anymore. MaverickNate 03:49, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Picture tag
Was was this edit made? I was told images like that should be marked with the bad image tag since they are not from the games, just fan made images. --HoennMaster 22:18, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- Because we had them made in order to replace the ones from the game. correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure every single route image is fanmade. MaverickNate 02:22, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Just to note
I was first made aware of my unintended mistake because I had been monitoring the Recent Changes frequently as well as the fact that I have already devised a countermeasure on avoiding affecting the images like that again. Also just to note there are a few sprites such as with Cilan in a few pages that haven't been upgraded to the new names yet. -Tyler53841 01:16, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Luckily you were smart enough to figure it out on your own then. A lot of people just ignore that it happens and let the images sit broken. MaverickNate 01:18, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- With all these new updates for the English Names I have to keep a vigilant watch on recent changes and the connection links such as a few editors didn't bother to look at some of the moves' breeding sections, which I did and carefully found and upgraded the names. Speaking which everything except for the protected pages for the names of the new moves and Pokémon have been completed. -Tyler53841 01:20, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Re Sudowoodo
While I agree that it may not be notable for newer Sudowoodo cards, it was most probably intended to be a reference on the Neo Genesis card, as it would have been the only Rock type with a Water weakness at the time. Also, I was not edit warring. Each page was only reverted by me once. XVuvuzela2010X 21:05, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Skyridge Aerodactyl begs to differ. Same generation. We don't know that that was their intention, because it is also the only pure rock type released at the time. Your necessary restrictions are getting a bit too restrictive. Once other pure rock types were introduced, such as Regirock or Nosepass, every single one of which were weak to water, alongside every Sudowoodo. It fits the in game characteristics, so the principle of Occam's Razor applies: Simpler of two valid explanations is the correct one. MaverickNate 21:16, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
{{Trainer Text}}
Is this the correct template for use in the TCG cards? If not, which one is it? Masatoshitalk 09:24, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- It is, yes. A new one hasn't been developed. Personally, I would prefer all the Pokémon card stuff is finished before moving onto something else. It makes everything SO much easier to focus all our time on one thing. MaverickNate 02:14, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Congratulations! For your outstanding service to Bulbapedia you have been awarded the Crystal Bulbasaur Award for 2010 by the Bulbapedia editorial board!
Please place this template onto your userpage by putting {{User Award|CrystalBulba|2010}} among your userboxes. |
You have been an inspiration to so many editors both on Bulbapedia and the Archives in your tenure here. The TCG section has flourished and the Archives have developed from a messy warren of images into something more manageable. Whatever your path from here (and we all hope you stay), know that the hours days weeks lifetime you put into this site has not been for naught :)
Your friend and colleague, —darklordtrom 09:34, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Hey there.
Remember how you said we had all the TCG scans? You might be mistaken. Now, I haven't looked extensively for these, but we seem to be missing scans from two critically important but little-known releases. For starters, several preview cards of the VS series were released in English at the Tropical Mega Battle 2001. The other scans we may not have are of the "Sample" editions of a few Expedition Base Set cards. The art is the same as the regular printing, but the "Sample" editions have Japanese backs, the word "Sample" near the lower right of the card, and are exceedingly rare. They were used to showcase the E-reader's capabilities in certain retail outlets. I've recently come into possession of a couple "Sample" cards, and have an acquaintance who may be willing to scan the others. So essentially... do we have these, and should we? The VS ones will be difficult to get... they're even more limited in printing. At the very least, mentions of the Sample editions should be included on each page of the involved cards (there aren't many) and mentions of the English release should be included on the pages for the VS cards involved. Again, there aren't many. I'll take care of that tomorrow. --P o L i 02:09, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- First off, I know about the Tyranitar Half Deck cards. I made the page in September 2009, and already accommodated all those pages, such as the Clair Mantine resistance change. We already have Bugsy's Yanma in English, but as for all TCG scan purposes, it's the same: for the ARTWORK. Getting the English Tyranitar Half Deck images in not a priority, and in actuality, I think I have them somewhere. I showed them to you before, and you said how you hated the change in text font. They have the same artwork, and the 12 pages already have the English text quoted on the respective pages, and a release information section detailing their release.
- As for the sample cards, the rules are the same. Is the artwork different? No. Then there is no need to get scans of them. We'll mention them. Nuva kal and I are working on getting as much release information filled in as possible. It'll be added. MaverickNate 02:48, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Naming conventions for categories
e-Card expansions. Should we keep them as they are, or name them according to their titles, e.g. The Town on No Map, Wind from the Sea, etc.? Just asking for the set categories is all, though I know you changed those that were not "e-Card" back to "e-Card" a while ago. ~~nuva-kal 16:06, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- I only changed them to e-Card because that was what was used in the opening line in the articles. I guess they should be the names, to match everything else. MaverickNate 16:28, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Re:Move Images
...But HOW I can animate them? I use Screen Capture fuction for pictures... Marked +-+-+ 14:45, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- First of all, you're gonna need Animget, Photoshop and JaPNG Editor. I assume you have an emulator, such as No$gba or DeSmuME (or Visual Boy Advance, why not?).
- You'll have to run the emulator and Animget.exe (I'd suggest that the settings of the emulator have 0 frame skips. It'll make the game slower, but more accurate.), and engage in a battle with the Pokémon whose move is the one you want to capture, right before your Pokémon uses the attack, go to the running application AnimGet and go to Observe, and then click Start, the program is now taking screenshots of the game alone, don't worry about your desktop. Try not to press any key that might speed up the game, or the result might be not what you're looking for.
- Select the move, let the Pokémon use it and then immediately after, click on Stop. If you found that they were good, then go to Screen Shots and click on Save, that will make the screenshots go to the shots folder. I'd go to said folder and delete the useless shots, I normally find the shots useful when I see "[POKéMON] used [MOVE]!" until the attack finishes, and the HP bars are seen again.
- Open up Photoshop and create a batch script, open the first screenshot and create the action, hit the record button and crop the image (Generation IV and V have 256x192 as the image size, so make sure to crop it well.), then save in a different folder, once you have it done, go to File > Automate and change the settings for Action (the name you used for the script), the source and destination folders (source being Animget/shots and destination, wherever you want them to be), File naming; for example, you were animating Absorb, you type in Absorb in one field, 3 digit serial number in the other, and extension (not EXTENSION, because it'd show .PNG instead of .png, and it's not encouraged to do that) in the last one. You click OK, and PS will start doing the same for each and every file, saving in a different folder.
- Once it's done, open up JaPNG Editor, select the shots that were cropped and drag them to the window; you'll see a preview that shows the Pokémon really slow, you'll have to edit the display time (I normally use 33ms, but this may vary, try to compare it to the game), if you're using two-timed moves, you'll have to check that some of the frames need to have a longer duration (500ms, so the people can see it). And I normally use 500ms and 1000ms on the first and last frame.
- Don't forget, though, that people don't use Firefox, and as such, they might not see the animated file, so we need to choose a frame (drag and drop it from the folder to the top) that suits the move the best, drag it to the top and then check skip first frame. That way, you'll see the animated frame, but they can see a preview of the move instead of watching the two Pokémon look at each other, not doing anything.
- With that done, you double check in the preview to see if something's missing, and then upload it to Archives. You can see my contributions on Archives and see what I'm talking about.
- If you have any other questions, you can ask me, I'll try to make it more clear for you. Masatoshitalk 17:30, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi-Res 5th Gen Sugimori art
Hi Nate,
If you guys out there at BulbaPedia need Hi-Res Sugimori art of the BW Pokemon (rather than the very small ones), here's a useful link from my website : http://lightofthestars.com/poke-creators/sugimori2.htm
These are from official Japanese sources (websites, magazines etc...) and are way better than the actual BW Sugimori art that BulbaPedia have. Feel free to use them. TokoyamiTheDark 21:23, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
