Evolving Dual traits
Some pokemon that cant be caught in the wild and must be evolved have a dual nature that is not shared with the previous generation, how do you get their abilities then?
- Breeding LOL hfc2X 20:20, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- If the ability is a new one (introduced in gen IV) the pokemon has a 50% chance to change the ability upon evolving, I think Shiny Lanturn 10:06, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- What I meant is that if you transfer Nidorino with point point and evolve it, it has a 50% chance of getting rivalry. The Rhyperior situation doesn't fly because the line already had two abilities : Lightning Rod and Rock head, Rock head becomes solid rock upon evolving. Solid rock isn't 'added' it replaces an existing one. Shiny Lanturn 14:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Nopes, Nidorino already has Rivalry and even Nidoran♂ has it. If you want a Nidoking with Rivalry you'll have to breed it and get a Nidoran♂ with it already. hfc2X 16:28, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Rivalry didn't exist in generation 3. As such, a Nidorino that was migrated does have a 50% chance of their ability changing upon evolving. I know this is old, but it was driving me mad --Shadowater 02:44, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Alphabet
Shouldn't these be in alphabetical order? -Ketsuban
Logic doesn't prevail, ket. They're stored this way in every other database, and we're following along. Heh. We'll work up a feature to make finding each trait easier, though, probably. ~evkl
Apparently logic does prevail! Aha, I win! -Ketsuban
All of the ability articles listed on this article are classified as stubs. But is there really anything more to say on all of them? Am I forgetting some major way in which these articles could be expanded? Or can we go through and pull out all those stub tags? --Pie 12:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Some real description of the ability would be good. The current text is just pulled from the game - doesn't have much detail, for example, Pickup could do with an explanation of just what very rare, rare, uncommon, common etc. mean in terms of percentages. Blaze ought to explain what up and pinch specifically mean. And so on. - 振霖T 13:55, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Help needed
Hey, do someone knows someone that can get the game code so we can add the numbers to G IV abilities? Gambler 04:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC) P.S. Also, I'm thinking of doing a template, should I add them in numerical order or by funtionality? (Raises something, decreases something, affected by weather, affects weather, etc...)?
- I think we should keep the functionality things to categories, which I've only done for the weather ones. Numerically listed or alphabetically listed in a template is good, though. And you might be able to extract them by crossreferencing one of Zhen Lin's subpages on which Pokémon has which ability with a source that shows the names for the specific abilities a Pokémon has, since I dunno any other source that gives number and name at the same time. Mistery Dungeon Information
Should there be a Mystery Dungeon section on abilities articles? A lot of abilities work different than they do on main games (Illuminate makes a wild pokemon appears every time the pokemon with Illuminate is hit, for example) and I think articles should note that.
Anime information
Should we mention on the ability articles when they were used in the anime just like we have for moves? Maybe even provide pictures? That would expand them a little. --☆ケンジガール 03:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Layout
I don't like the layout of some abilities eg. Blaze. Because the pokemon list goes DOWN not ACROSS.--Wowy 07:16, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Abilites Outside of battle
I think it'd be good if this article mentioned which abilities have effects outside of battle. Its a pain going through each one trying to find out which abilities do what. --Bulbafreak9000 21:45, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Knock yourself out. — THE TROM — 09:43, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't think this is what is meant. Think of abilities like Magma Armor, Flame Body, Intimidate, Synchronise out in the field. Gywall Talk 09:49, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Then let us create Category:Abilities with field effects. — THE TROM — 09:52, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

- I'll get on that now then. Unless you've started already. Hmm, must check the RC. — THE TROM — 10:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Single and Dual
Just what do those two columns mean? Thanos6 11:55, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Single = how many Pokémon can have only this ability, Dual = how many Pokémon can have either this ability or an other ability. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 11:57, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. Do you think we should put that in the article somewhere? Thanos6 12:02, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
List of pokémons with their abilities
Shouldn't there be a list of pokémons with their abilities just like it's the case with base stats, types, catch rate, etc? ... I sort of need it for the game I'm making... *rolleyes* By the way, you will be the first to recieve the source code for that game since I use all of your data :) --Stoo 04:06, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- We haven't got one right now, but you can create it if you want to. —darklordtrom 05:42, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Illusion
Illusion is an ability in Generation V, shown by Zorua and Zoroark, should we put this in the list now, or wait until we have more info? From Samjohn95 22:36, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well, we know it exists so let's put it on the page. —darklordtrom 11:22, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
New confirmed abilites
EarthquakeSpiral, Encourage, Pigeon Breast/Heart,.. all new to Generation V, shouldn't these be added. Their is also TeraVoltage and TurboBlaze, but their effects haven't been revealed, so I didn't know if they would be ok to add?--S2daam 15:14, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- it's more than that, the page needs a total rewrite to incorporate each Pokémon now having up to 3 abilities.
Hidden Abilities?
There's a good deal of information on Hidden Abilities here, such as which Pokemon have which Hidden Abilities, but I haven't been able to find any information on what a Hidden Ability is or does anywhere, either on the wiki or via Google. I have a couple of hypotheses, but I don't have either of the Generation V games, and I'm not certain they exist in Gen IV. I also don't care to throw around wild conjecture because that's how rumors get started. If this information can be found, I think we should add it. VoidPointer 01:36, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- They are exclusive to Gen V games. They are abilities that a Pokémon can legitimately have in-game, but are not available on normal wild Pokémon. They are only available through special means, one example of which being the Dream World. Werdnae (talk) 02:42, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Anime Templates
Could we use a template for Anime appearances for Abilities, like we have for the moves? Here is Lightningrod as an example:
The user draws in Electric attacks. | |||
Pokémon | Method | ||
---|---|---|---|
User | First Used In | Notes | |
When Rhydon's opponent uses an electric attack, the attack changes direction and hits Rhydon's horn instead. | |||
H Block Trainer's Rhydon | Tag! We're it...! | Debut |
It just looks a lot cleaner and more consistant in my opinion. XVuvuzela2010X 11:47, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Looking good. I have no objections. —darklordtrom 03:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Hidden Ability Contradiction
If a Pokemon can only have one ability, should it be noted as a hidden ability, or not? As some Pokemon note this, while others don't. XVuvuzela2010X 16:03, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Numbers are off
The numbers for the amount of Pokémon with single and dual abilities still add up to 493, meaning they haven't been changed for Generation V FrankTheTank000 20:52, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
