In the anime

Swablu's first major role was in True Blue Swablu. A Swablu got lost from its flock and got its wing injured. After the wing was healed, it took Ash and company some time to get the Swablu the courage to fly again. At the end of the episode, Swablu was going to come with May until it was re-united with its flock.

A Swablu has also appeared in That's Just Swellow under the ownership of Shane.

In the manga

Name origin

Swablu's name is a combination of the words swallow, referring to the species of bird on which this Pokémon is based, and blu, a misspelling of blue, referring to the color of this Pokémon.
