Pokénet
Pokénet is a fan-made massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), coded using Java, started in February 2009 by former members of Pokémon Global and Pokémon Online Revolution. The first release of Pokénet went public on June 30, 2009.
History & Development
Pokénet started development in February 2009. The game is primarily programmed to address design flaws and optimise existing code from Pokémon Global and Pokémon Online Revolution. The project is programmed using the following technologies:
- Java
- lwjgl / Slick
- Apache Mina
- Tiled
- Shoddy Battle
The current development team consists of several programmers, mappers, musicians, writers and graphics artists from around the world. Pokénet made its first release on June 30th 2009.
Releases
Fearless Feebas
Fearless Feebas was released on June 30th 2009, marking the first release of Pokénet. Features included:
- New Login/Registration System (Play on same account on multiple servers)
- New Chat System
- New Item System
- Multiple Language Support (English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Dutch, Finnish)
- Wild Pokémon
- Catching (including Boxes)
- Leveling/Evolution
- Johto
- Player vs. Player Battles
- Trading
- New Battle System based on Pokémon Platinum Version
Valiant Venonat
Valiant Venonat is the second release planned for Pokénet. The plan for this release is to provide a skills system to add new gameplay elements.
Planned Skills System
Under the planned skills system, each trainer would have the ability to develop skills in different aspects of Pokémon. The skills are planned as follows:
- Trainer Skill
- Breeding Skill
- Co-ordinating Skill
- Fishing Skill
- Crafting Skill (allows creation of items such as Potions)
Future Releases
After Valiant Venonat, there will be a Release Candidate (name still undecided), followed by the final release. Future releases will incorporate other aspects of Pokémon and MMORPGs such as:
- Quests
- Pokémon Contests
- All regions including Hoenn, Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh and the Orange Islands.
