Drake's Dragonite (Japanese: ユウジのカイリュー Yūji's Kairyu) is Drake's main Pokémon in the anime and also his strongest. Drake keeps Dragonite's Poké Ball around his neck.

History

Drake and his Dragonite

Dragonite first appeared in Hello, Pummelo, when it was seen flying around the island. Later when Team Rocket tried to steal Dragonite, they were sent blasting off from its Hyper Beam attack.

In Enter The Dragonite, Drake used Dragonite in the battle against Ash Ketchum. It was shown to be a very strong battler. With its impressive speed and power, it was able to take out Charizard, Squirtle and Tauros, although all three managed to land at least one blow on Dragonite before they fainted. Even though it fought three of Ash's Pokémon, it was still able to defeat Team Rocket when they tried another attempt at capturing it when it was tired out.

It then had to battle Pikachu in the last round of the match. Despite being tired out from the previous battles, it managed to put up a good fight against Pikachu, but, after a fierce battle, it was defeated by Pikachu's use of a Thunder attack while positioned on Dragonite's head, and Ash became a champion of the Orange League.

Dragonite in the Electric Tale of Pikachu

Dragonite makes an appearance in The Electric Tale of Pikachu. It appeared in The Orange Crew Supreme Gym Leader and Pikachu's Plan, where it was the last Pokémon to battle Ash. It went up against Squirtle as its first opponent and won easily. Charizard was next and after a long battle, Dragonite emerged victorious. Lastly it battled Pikachu and lost, giving Ash the victory.

Trivia

• Dragonite could use an astonishing 10 different moves (8 in the dub). This was done by the writer of the episode, Atsuhiro Tomioka, to make Dragonite seem more unstoppable.
