This book follows the plot of the anime episode Green Guardian. In the story, Ash and his friends find a Celebi in the forest who injured itself while putting out a forest fire. They nurse it back to health with a Pokémon Ranger named Solana.

When Team Rocket tries to steal Celebi, Ash and his friends fight against them to protect it. They defeat the evil trio, but their mecha explodes in the process, causing another forest fire. Celebi uses its powers to put out the fire, and then disappears in a blinding flash of light.
