Love, Pokémon Style! (Japanese: よせんリーグ!マグマラシほのおのバトル!! League Preliminaries! Battle of the Magmarashi Flame!!) is episode 267 of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on September 26, 2002 and in the United States on September 18, 2003.
Synopsis
Ash meets a young girl named Macey who he is scheduled to battle in his next preliminary match. Macey instantly develops a crush on Ash. She also clashes with Misty about Water Pokemon; it seems Macey's preferred type is Fire.
Ash decides to use both Totodile and Kingler to counteract Macey's Fire Pokemon. Brock also gives him an idea for the 3rd Pokemon to use, which is not revealed to the audience. Unfortunately, Kingler is injured by 3 Voltorbs and won't be able to battle!!! Ash is at a serious disadvantage.
Just then, Ash's Squirtle arrives courtesy of Officer Jenny! Ash is thrilled to have Squirtle back, and Bulbasaur is overjoyed at meeting its old friend.
The next day, the battle between Ash & Macey begins!! Macey sends out Slugma, and Ash uses Totodile. Slugma puts up a good fight, but Totodile's Water Gun does some serious damage. Macey quickly recalls her Pokemon and sends out... Electabuzz!
The audience is shocked that a Fire trainer like Macey has an Electabuzz. However, Ash (with Brock's help) realized that Macey uses Electabuzz to counteract the threat of Water-types. So Ash calls back Totodile and sends out...Phanpy! Electabuzz's Thundershock has no effect on Phanpy, so Macey recalls and sends out Slugma again. Phanpy uses a Rollout and Slugma is finally knocked out!!!
Phanpy & Electabuzz square off again. Phanpy tries to overcome the electric powerhouse, but Electabuzz manages to KO Phanpy! Now Ash is in serious trouble.
Ash sends Totodile back out, but Totodile is quickly knocked out by Electabuzz's shocks. This leaves Ash with only 1 more choice- Squirtle! Squirtle uses its Skull Bash to finally knock out Electabuzz!
Macey sends out her last Pokemon, Quilava. Both sides spend time launching attacks, but Squirtle finally uses Hydro Pump to score a 1st-round victory for Ash!!!
After the match, Macey meets with Ash to explain that there are no hard feelings over the battle. And, due to the experience from fighting Ash, Macey's Slugma has now evolved into Magcargo.
