Shooty

Why isn't this character referred to as "Shooty" which is the more accurate representation of the katakana name? If it is because of the single website Shooti.jp, then this page should be renamed because that's some unrelated search engine, and the spelling is not even the same in Katakana. The name was even written wrong on this article. He's "シューティー", not "シューティ".Ryulong 08:08, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes. I think it should be moved ASAP. Also, does it really matter what letter does his name start. Really, this is the most annoying kind of trivia ever. --Maxim 09:21, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Shooty - Part 2

So can I just freakin' move this page finally? I think everyone agrees that Shooty is the correct romanization, not the awkward "Shooti". The only reason why people use "Shooti" is Merrick, as usual. --Maxim 13:16, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I think Shooty would be a better romanisation. --SnorlaxMonster 13:29, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I don't think we should move it. Just google シューティー and the first result will show a link to www.shooti.jp. I don't know whether it's a good proof or not but I just wanted to share it with you people to avoid confusion. The rest is up to you guys. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 13:30, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, but look at the title of site - クチコミポータル:SHOOTI(シューティ). It's "シューティ", not "シューティー". If the character's name was "シューティ", that would indeed romanize as "Shooti". But it DOES have that final long mark. It makes a difference. --Maxim 13:33, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Even if the character was named シューティ, "Shooty" is the better translation. People should stop blindly following Serebii's translation skills. For the longest time they had Meloetta named "Melodia".Ryulong 20:52, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
We don't fall for "good translations" but for Romanizations, there's a world of difference, and, if you want my opinion (even if you don't I'll share it xD) I think Shooti is better and we have ONE proof, do you have ANY of it being Shooty? Show us please. I don't see why Shooti is "awkward", no offence intended. I just think those who want it to be with y want it because it looks a little more English-like, but remember... romanizations don't always end up looking like English! YukitoOoO 07:28, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
What proof do you mean? That site isn't any proof, tht site's name is シューティ, not シューティー, so it was a different word. The fact that it turned up in Google search doesn't mean anything. There's no proof for either name. But characters BARELY EVER got official Romaji spellings. So, we have to either guess a romanization or use direct one. The direct one is "Shūtī". And "Shooti" sounds like some dumb compromise between direct romanization and anglicized one. It also ignores the long mark, so it can't be a romanization of シューティー. Also, come on, the name COMES from English. He's named "Shooty" because he shoots photos, for the love of God. And "shooty" is an actual word, "shooti" is not. Common sense says that "Shooty" is better. There are no "proofs" here. The only potential proof that could defend "Shooti" would be that spelling turning up in some actual source (like the anime itself). Otherwise, ANY romanization is an assumption. So, let's just take the best assumption. Also, if I don't get a reply quick enough, I'll just move the page. We've been holding this for too long. This Pedia needs demerricization. --Maxim 12:18, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
"Shooty" as a word is barely real. "Shoot" is a real word. "Shooty" is simply 'cute' Basketball and gun slang, and any real definition doesn't relate to cameras (just plants). I don't see why we just don't go with "Shuuti". At least that doesn't look like a joke of a name, even if the real intention is "Shooty". Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 14:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Because "Shuuti" is just as wrong. The names in Isshu, for the most part, are English or almost English. This character is "Shooty", and certainly not "Shooti".Ryulong 23:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
ALRIGHT! It'll be better if we drop this issue and just wait for his dub name. That's it, otherwise more conflicts will come in front and a flame war will start. THE END. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 06:15, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
There's still the argument about which Japanese name is correct so the issue is not over. --HoennMaster 14:56, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
There is no argument. It's just シューティー --SnorlaxMonster 15:20, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
I meant Shooty vs. Shooti. --HoennMaster 15:28, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Which is precisely the issue we were told to drop. It's staying here for now. --SnorlaxMonster 16:24, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

But the romanization of this name is still wrong because everyone listens to whatever Serebii puts out.Ryulong 19:56, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
...Ok :|.YukitoOoO 20:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not talking about Shooty now (I don't want to start a flamewar) but about Bulbapedia in general. I hate this general "those are just Japanese names and we'll have to move them anyway, so who cares?" trend. I think this should never be a reason to lower our standards. This is still six months before the games get released and the fandom takes a good part of the BW information from our Wiki. By using incorrect romanizations, we're simply misleading the fandom. Also, who said that he'll get a different dub name? The dub tends to keep English-sounding names these times, even ridiculous ones like Ship, Marble or Moose. And if his name is kept, it's likely to be "Shooty", as this is probably the most correct romanization of all possible. Temporary or not, all the romanizations on Bulbapedia have to be correct. This recent trend among admins is killing me. Will it be THAT much of a nuissance if we move it? --Maxim 20:16, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
If you are going to make one part of the name English (using "oo" instead of "uu" or "u"), then at least make the whole name English (don't use "i" and use "y" or "ee" or something).Ryulong 18:11, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

I was apparently able to move the page, so I've done so (and Template:Shooty's Pokémon and Shooty's Tsutarja). Serebii isn't always right when it comes to romanizing, so let's make this site be for once.Ryulong 01:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't just move the page without at least informing one admin, or rather move it, then post saying you moved it. Umeko has said that Shooty isn't any more right than Shooti is. It just so happens that we had the same romanization as Serebii. Before somebody starts flaming me or asking who Umeko is, she is well versed and experienced in Japanese than most of the people here, so I am standing by her opinion. Jellotalk 01:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, "Shooti" is wrong. The only reason it's being used is because Serebii chose that name because they don't think there's the long sound mark in the name. The page should be at another title other than "Shooti".Ryulong 01:19, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure I care too much but aren't some of you forgetting that its his name? I mean it's not like some brand name product in which we have to use the correct spelling, and who says it isn't Shoot? I mean after all their are people who have names ending in I. And if the correct romanization is something like "Shuuti" or whatever and you want to clean it up and make it Shooti, then why is Shooty more correct? It's his name, it really can be spelled or pronounced in any way as far as I'm concerned since names tend to that. There are people named Danny, but there are people named Danni, Dani, Dannii, and whatever possible alternative spelling I missed. Just because Shooty sounds more appropriate like Danny, doesn't mean that his name can't be of an alternative spelling. --Dman dustin 01:33, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
No. The correct romanization is not something like "Shuuti". The I has a vowel extending mark at the end of it, so it would be "Shuutii" which is read as "Shoo-tee".--Ryulong 19:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

I say we leave it as it is. It sounds better anyway.RBK 02:59, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

User Ryulong has got serious problems against Serebii.. and we weren't even talking it up, or anything... we were talking about good romanizations. :| oh well.YukitoOoO 07:36, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I say we wait until the English dub. They will most likely use Shooty anyway. --Nathan2055talk 17:54, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

English name =/= Japanese Name. This isn't about his dub name, it's about what is the proper spelling of his Japanese name. --HoennMaster 17:58, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm trying to translate some of these possible names through Google, and シューティー comes back "Shoe Tee". As well, when I listen to "Shooti" and "Shooty" the same voice plays. It could be that this is exactly the same. --Nathan2055talk 18:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
All I'm saying is that Shooti is as correct as Airis or Irisu.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 18:40, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Not exactly proof, but the Japanese Pokémon names that ends with an "ī" in Hepburn romanization all have trademarked romaji that ends with "y", "ie", or "ee".神智の超龍對話」 13:08, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Yep. That's why Shooti and Tesshido are both wrong.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 14:12, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Hmm...that makes since. Maybe we should move it. --Nathan2055talk 23:29, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

So, can I change his Japanese name now for above reasons?----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 12:13, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Shooti's pokemon in BW009

Can someone add Fushide to shooti's team list? Just make it where the page does not exist or something. --Pokemon26 05:40, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

We don't add new Pokémon to people's parties UNTIL THE EPISODE AIRS. This includes captures, evolutions, etc. Since BW009 is almost a month away from airing, we will abide by the policy of the wiki. --JediKnightDTV 05:51, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
it's actually BW episode 10...:P Chomi 17:47, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok...so it is BW010. Do we know all of the pokemon Shooti will use, because if we do, can't we add them and say that the "page does not exist"?--Pokemon26 15:45, 13 November 2010 (UTC) i don't think we should change it until the English verison comes out - unsigned comment from Tylertyrell (talkcontribs)

Shooti's Pokemon mentioned in BW010

Shooti suggests Ash and him have a full battle (a six on six). Ash mentions he can't because he only has five. Should it be noted that Shooti has six Pokemon, or should "we" wait until his other "3" Pokemon are revealed. I'm asking because it seems like something Bulbapedia did before (noting that a trainer has "x" Pokemon but did not reveal it).--Dman dustin 11:38, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, we should note that. And wow, Ash has 5 Pokémon after 10 episodes (there goes the rest of the series). --SnorlaxMonster 12:09, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
As of now, we know Trip has a Lampent, a Vanillite, and a Timburr. Lampent has already been noted, but even if we don't add Vanillite and Timburr until their episode airs, should we at least take out the "at least 2 other Pokémon" statement? EvilKirikizan 12:32, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Two Similar Families

Is this the first time that one of Ash's rivals is raising two Pokémon from simmilar families of Ash's Pokémon?

No. I meant that it's the first time they are being traind simotaniusly. Krabby was never revealed to be in Garry's party at at the same time as Kingler was in Ash's party.--EpicShadow 01:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Trivia add

I thought we could add at the part; "Shooti owns a member from each of the only two Pokémon families in Generation V that have gender differences.", that its only 1 of them which has confirmed its gender as of yet? Or is thats not worth adding? --Mattii 19:49, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter what the gender is. All that matters is that he owns the Pokemon that can have the gender differences Ataro 19:54, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Hatooboo

Just curious but it says that Hatooboo defeated Mijumaru and Pokabu with a single strike. Now correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it use aerial ace twice on each??? It used it once and then doubled back again didn't it?RBK 01:14, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Shooty/Shooti

I suggest keeping it to Shooti because it is still Japanese, right?--Char☆Kit 03:58, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

If you read above, "Shooti" and "Shooty" are both not Hepburn romanisations. The true romanisation is "Shuutii", but it has been stylised. Both still reflect the origins of the Japanese name. --SnorlaxMonster 04:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Can' this be put to rest already his English name will be reveald in a few months and we will have to revise it all anyway. As far as I am concerned both romanisations reflect the name just as well as the other, so why spam up the page with arguments? For all we know his English name could be Clark or somthing this whole discusion won't matter, so I think it makes sense to just leave it as it is for now. --EpicShadow 15:27, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
I personally don't care either way, but the conversation certainly won't be done even when his English name is revealed because we still have his Japanese name on the page. --HoennMaster 16:08, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
I have a question, please. Why "Shooty" and not "Shooti" ? Thanks for reply. --- Misaki 00:39, 19 February 2011.
Yes, I wish this dispute would be put to rest. In fact, translators for his Japanese name show "Shoe Tee", so I can't figure it out. --Nathan2055talk 00:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
To Misaki: It's Shooty because the kana ー at the end implies that is a long sounding "ee", meaning a "y". Similar to Togepi's Japanese name. All of this is mentioned earlier in the talk so I won't go into the details.
To Nathan2055: "Shoe Tee" comes from the Google translator which is extremely unreliable. --ケンジガール 04:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Power Rangers reference?

What do you mean "rumor?" Ataro 23:20, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, the only reason the name was changed is because he vaguely looks like a character from an unrelated television show. --Nathan2055talk 23:39, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
His name has already been confirmed as Trip. He was talking about how he might be based off of that person from the power rangers. For more information please go to Bulbanews. You'll find an article about it. --Pokemaster97 23:42, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
There is nothing there! I searched the entire site. Anyway, let's just wait until the first episode, then we'll be sure. --Nathan2055talk 18:29, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Here's the confirmation from the official site. Read the complete description please and you'll get your answer. Thank you ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 18:46, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Trip's hair

Trip's hair does not look like a shade of green at all, and if you have a look at a colour palette you will find out that it is actually a shade of blond (for example). Every single hair catalogue I checked out included Trip's hair colour listed as ash blond or dark blond. I think his hair colour is actually ash blond rather than light green. Guille Skye 21:38, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't see the resemblence. Maybe Greenish Blonde would be better, but I don't think there's actually a need to worry too much about it for now. --Landfish7 21:43, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Don't usually like hair discussions, but I agree. Trip is what you would call a "dirty blond". My friend had a similar hair color and that's what she called herself. I think we are relying a little too much on regular colors, which we shouldn't do. If we keep his hair at light green we might as well say Barry's hair is yellow and Misty's hair is orange rather than blond and red, respectively. --ケンジガール 21:47, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Male Tranquill

After watching BW022, it is noticable that the anime are making it very obvious that Trip's Tranquill is male. Ash's Trabquill is female and listen to the two in comparison. I know this wouldn't normally be listed as enough proof, but it's a minor detail and I think it should be listed. Torngentleman2 14:54, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

It's pretty obvious but still unconfirmed. And Yanmega has masculine voice but she is female.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 14:59, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Trip's Tranquill

Tranquill has appeared in two episodes, and has had a fairly important role in one. It may be a good idea to add a separate page for Tranquill, or if not now, once Tranquill has one more significant appearance. EvilKirikizan 12:27, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

It's not notable. Having appearances alone doesn't make it notable. So far all its done is participate in one battle and blow some bugs away, that's not notable. --HoennMaster 14:49, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Makes sense. But I think that if Tranquill has a couple more significant appearances, we may have a reason to. Sorry to bother, i like Tranquill almost as much as this swordsman. - unsigned comment from EvilKirikizan (talkcontribs)

I have a question about the English voice actor for Tranquill. Does anyone know who voices Tranquill? If someone figured it out, can they please post who voiced Trip's Tranquill on the page talking about Trip.Ctc1017 21:40, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Ctc1017

Name Reference

Looking at his name in conjunction with the character section isn't 'Trip' a reference to the Olympus Trip 35? Call me old but it was a very popular camera in the 1980's. --Johngalt 21:03, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Servine's Moves

How come in Servine's box, it doesn't say any of the moves he knows (Cut, Leaf Tornado and i believe Tackle) yet with the rest of his Pokemon, they have there moves shown? also it's pretty Obvious his Ability is Overgrow, considering it did not come from the Dream World. Buizel1991 03:37, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Because it has its own article where it says its moves and his other Pokémon don't. And we cannot assume that its ability is Overgrow because Games =/= Anime. --ケンジガール 03:49, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

NL

In the dutch dub his name was the same as in the English dub. Can somebody add this. --Nazirbashir 10:07, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

No, because it's normal. Dutch names for characters and Pokemon are always the same as English. --Maxim 10:12, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Age

Since you have to be 10 to receive a pokemon from a professor, would this not confirm Trip's age?? Just curious??RBK 19:11, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Bianca anyone? --ケンジガール 03:50, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes but we know Belle is older as she said so, however Trip has not mentioned any reason that would prevent him to get a pokemon when he was ten, thus this makes me think that he is ten. Plus Trip's dream is to be a trainer/champion so why would he wait to get his pokemon at an older age?RBK 05:32, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Some people would like to wait to hone their skills before going off on a journey. Unless it's stated, it's not going on their. Sorry, but them's the rules. Ataro 05:48, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Protection

Should this page be protected since we know that Gurdurr is set to evolve??RBK 05:08, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

No, I think that is just for pages for characters Pokemon. Since Gurdurr doesn't have its own page, it might be redundant to lock Trip's whole page. Playerking95 05:11, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Conkeldurr

Do you guys think Conkeldurr should get it's own page?? i think it's appeared enough to get one.RBK 22:16, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

It's only appeared twice so far and it just battled during those appearances so it doesn't really meet the notability requirements. Other pokémon were deleted/redirected for that very reason. --HoennMaster 00:01, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Trip as a "Xenophobic Bigot"

How is Trip not a Xenophobic Bigot? Why does he think he's of higher class when compared to Ash? Because Ash is a "Boondock" from the "Boonies". Why would he insult Ash based on where he is from, if he didn't consider it something that designates a status of supperiority/inferiority? Thus calling him a Xenophobe is not extreme! He's also shown to be overly critical of Ash's abilites and even Ash's manersisms than is necessary (because he is a "boondock")! Thus this is not an inaccurate description of Trip's attitude to the Kanto Region, Ash and the rest of the Kanto Region's inhabitants. Jdogno4 00:00, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

What ever one feels about them, we should never put a name to their behavior. We should only describe the behavior. When you label people this and that someone could become offended by the choice of words. --ケンジガール 00:11, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

So what if, Trip is "rather distant and prefers not to interact with them (his rivals) outside of battle."? How is that describing him as something akin to a Xenophobic Bigot, that is "already there, just less rude sounding".? I'm not trying to be rude or deliberately argumentative, I'm just trying to understand. - unsigned comment from Jdogno4 (talkcontribs)

Okay, hows this? We don't want to describe him as one because he isn't one. I mean do you honestly think they'd put one in kids show? You are looking far too deep into something that doesn't exists. That's all I'm saying on the matter. Hopefully now you understand. --ケンジガール 03:46, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Do I honestly think "they"'d put one in kids' shows? Yes, I do, matter of fact. I can list examples: Disney's Pocahontas films, "The Power Of One" (the film based on the Bryce Courtenay novel, not the English dub of M02), "A Jewish Girl in Shanghai" (Chinese animated film) and "Life Is Beautiful" (an Italian Film). That's 4 examples. 5 if you count the two seperate Pocahontas films by Disney.

Trip=Cheren?

I've notice that trip is similar to cheren in BW. Because they are both after being strong, they both meet Alder with the player/ash just outside of Nimbasa City. They both are the main rivals to the player/ash. And because oshawott is ash's unova "starter" they both have the stronger starter to the player/ash, they also both have starters weak to Bianca's starter. So maybe that ca go on there trivia. thank you.Rusa11 (talk) 19:48, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
