Kenji Girl (Japanese: ケンジガール Kenji Girl) has been a user of Bulbapedia since October 2006. She mostly contributes to the Pokémon anime sections of Bulbapedia. Her favorite Pokémon is Absol and she loves Tracey Sketchit.
About Myself
My real name is Samantha Galipo (サマンザ・ガリポ). I've been a Pokémon fan since 1999. That's about a year after it came out in the U.S. I'm 21 years old, that means I was 13 when I started getting in to Pokémon. =P I also go under the names of SonicAngel948 and SatoshiSonic948. As you might have guess by those two names I'm also a Sonic the Hedgehog fan.
I'm a fan of both the games and the anime. Ironically it was the anime I got into first before I played the game.
Personally I believe I'm a nice person to get to know. I love animals and even work at animal shelter. I'm not a big fan of young kids. I just have had bad expiriances with them regarding the animal shelter. Most are loud and whiny and scare the animals. There have been kids I have made friends with from time to time. Mostly, I'm willing to make friends with anyone. The only way that I could become your enemy is if you treat me as such.
I'm a fan of some other things besides Pokémon. I also like other video games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, The Mario Series, the Super Smash Brothers series, Star Fox, Dance Dance Revolution, and the Soul Calibur series. I'm not a big fan of all that Final Fantasy crap. I also hate First-person Shooting games.
My other favorite animes include InuYasha, Sailor Moon, Gatchaman, Tokyo Mew Mew, Magic Knight Rayearth and Sonic X (the original). I can't stand Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh! or Fullmetal Alchemist. And fans of Naruto {"Narutards") really annoy me with their complaints of the dub.
I have a low tolerance for flamers and vandals. I tend to get sensitive over discussions of discrimination against people of different races, religions, and sexual orientations and sometimes lose my temper. Especially over the sexual orientation part. I'm not gay but I have friends that are and I become emotional when people say negative things about them or gay couplings. So it's best that you do not discuss them with me if you are against them.

Games
When I play the games, I usually name myself Sammy because Sam sounds too much like a guy and Samantha will not fit by one letter. *shakes fist*. I usually specialize in Water, Ice, Grass and my favorite Ghost Pokémon. I also get Fire types fairly often mostly because they're a necessity. I also have a tendency to nickname all my Pokémon, but only if they're going to be on my team. I don't name every single one of them.
So far I've played every version except Pokémon Diamond. I haven't played a lot of the spin-off games like Pokémon Ranger and Pin-Ball, etc. I have played the old Stadium games and the Pokémon Colosseum/XD. I did get to play Pokémon Battle Revolution but only when my friend brought his Wii over to my house. I played the online battles and I won 2 out of 2 of my Double Battles. Horray for banning legendaries!!

- Napoleon - After Napoleon Boneparte. The basis for this Pokémon
- Yuka - Japanese name meaning fragrant or friendly blossom
- Kaguya - After an evil villian from Sailor Moon. She was also a villian on Inuyasha.
- Hellgar - the Japanese name for Houndoom. =P
- Hikari - Japanese name meaning light. Named after character Hikari.
- Avion - A corruption of the word avian which relates to birds.

Favorite Pokémon
I have lots of favorites. But my top favorite of all is Absol. Its just so awesome. I love how it looks. My other favorites are as follows.
Anime
I'm also an avid fan of the Pokémon anime. As I said before, I saw the anime first before I played the games. Most of my contributions to Bulbapedia are anime related. My favorite arcs are the Indigo League, Orange League, Pokémon Chronicles, and the Sinnoh League arcs.
Favorite Characters
- Tracey/Kenji - I think this was probably obvious to you by my user name. He is my all time favorite character. I love his sweet personality and he draws just like I do. I'm very dissapointed that the writers didn't give him a bigger part in the anime. I wished that they would give him a new Pokémon or something. Make him come back once in a while. Oh well... what are you going to do. Maybe one day he will return to the team or at least have some episodes dedicated to him.
- Ash/Satoshi - Probably my second favorite character. I like his charisma and positive outlook on life. He may be a little thick headed at times but the anime just wouldn't be right without him.
- Misty/Kasumi - Definately my favorite female character. I fell that I can relate to her because I'm also a tomboyish redhead. I especially like how she matured after the original series ended. I find her to be a very strong trainer that could probably put Dawn and May to shame.
- Brock/Takeshi - Come on. Who doesn't love Brock? He's funny and a very kind person. When he first left the show I got really upset and I was overjoyed when he came back. Even though Tracey left the cast after that happened. He does go overboard when it comes to girls but hey, that what makes Brock well... Brock.
- Dawn/Hikari - She's just plain cool. Unlike the other females she seems like she's ready to more. I mean she battled a member of the Elite Four already. Even Ash didn't battle one until season 2. Though she doesn't rank higher than Misty in my book she definitely ranks higher than May.
- Richie/Hiroshi - I know that Bulbapedia spells it "Ritchie" but that's how I spell it. I know Richie isn't very popular within the Pokémon community. But he's one of my favorites. He's sweet, cute, and intellegent. What more could you ask for in a guy?
May and Max
I do like May/Haruka and Max/Masato, but not as much as the main characters. I really can't stand the fact that they got main parts the the movies before Misty or Brock did. Though I imagine that this will happen to Dawn too. All and all they're good characters. That's all I can really say. I can't think of anything that I really like about them.

I have quite a few favorite shippings. I do like same sex shippings as well as straight shippings. I'm not a big fan of incest couples though.

My opinion on the re-casting controversy
Yes I am upset that are old voice actors are gone. But I do not scold most of the new voice actors. In a way, I find this the best thing that could happen to the English dub of they anime.
To make things clear I HATE 4Kids Entertainment. They ruined a lot of good animes such as Tokyo Mew Mew, One Piece, and Sonic X by changing the lines and doing unecessary cuts combined with bad voice acting. Though I believe Sonic X was the worst. To make things even more horrible, they replaced all the orginal voice actors from the Sonic video games and replaced them with the awful 4kids actors. I do not think all 4Kids voice actors are bad. I think, as you probably do, the best actors of 4Kids were Veronica Taylor, Rachel Lillis, Eric Stuart, Ted Lewis, Maddie Blaustein, Amy Birnbaum, and Stan Hart. The worst I feel are Jimmy Zoppi (who was one of the actors kept for the new dub), Jason Griffith, Rebecca Honig, Dan Green, Amy Palant, and Kathleen Delany.
The Pokémon anime was probably one of their better works though they were still filled with countless mistakes. Such as the Team Rocket seen in Mewtwo Strikes Back. They called Sandslash Sandshrew and Scyther Alakazam. How in the world could you mistake Scyther for Alakazam? They're of a completely different type. 4Kids said that it was to make Team Rocket look stupid but I don't believe that. They've made other mistakes since then such as calling Poliwhirl Poliwrath, Staryu Starmie and Voltorb Electrode. They also make evolutionary mistakes saying that Gloom will evolve into Vileplume via the Sun Stone. How is this possible when the Sun Stone didn't even exist until the second generation. Oh and the classic Trainer's Choice that claimed Arbok evolved into Seviper. Yeah... This just proves that 4Kids know little about Pokémon game machanics and just assume things without researching. I mean the people of Bulbapedia do more researching then they did. But what would probably be their biggest screw up is the death of Lola (Brock's mother). In EP005, Flint said that she died. In the original, she simply got bored and left. They didn't think this was a big deal at the time but surprise surprise, Lola would return and be in H001. So was it better to just say she was dead rather then saying that she left? Yeah, that's American culture for you. Like mothers here never abandon there children and are all saints. They did nothing to fix this error but I bet they realized just how stupid they were. This is a perfect example of why the lines should NOT be changed from the original.
Probably the best thing about 4Kids dubbing the show was the voice actors. When I heard of the voice actor change, I was horrified that the Pokémon anime would be ruined just like Sonic the Hedgehog was. My fears were comfirmed when I watched the first dub of The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon. Brock sounded like a drug user, May sounded like she was forty, and Professor Oak sounded like an old nerd. But none were worst then Kayzie Rogers as Ash Ketchum. She lacked any emotion and treated the role as a joke. I was surprised since she's usually not that bad.
But luckly, Pokémon USA heard our complaints of the voice acting and fixed it (somewhat). Brock sounded better and Ash had a new voice actress Sarah Natochenny. Since then most of the voice acting has improved except for the work of Jimmy Zoppi. Though that doesn't surprise me.
I don't like it when people confuse Natochenny with Rogers and say that she made Ash sound bad. Truthfully I think she's a good voice actress. I wish people would give her a chance. They are always complaining that Ash sounds "too old". Well I got news for you people. Rica Matsumoto's voice, Ash's Japanese actress, as the same voice tone as Natochenny and no one seems to be complaining about her. And you would think after ten years that Ash would sound a little bit older. I admit she needs practice but I think she'll get it. Just give her a chance.
Since then Pokémon USA have done a much better job with the anime dubbing wise. They haven't made any major mistakes, just some minor ones. The don't tend to change the storyline completely like 4Kids did. They seem to stick to the original Japanese script more closely then 4kids ever did.
To sum it all up, yes, I do like the new dub of the anime. I believe that the voice actors will get better over time and everything will work out okay.
