Versatile's effect is likely derived from Mew's unique ability to learn every TM and HM move in the Pokémon games. The ability's Japanese name, Almighty, might be a reference to Mew's theorized role as the common ancestor of all Pokémon, frequently mentioned in its Pokédex entries.
