Brock's Croagunk
Brock's Croagunk (Japanese: タケシのグレッグル Takeshi's Gureggru) was the first Pokémon Brock captured in the Sinnoh region, and the ninth overall. Its Japanese voice actor is 小西克幸 Katsuyuki Konishi and its English voice actor is Bill Rogers.
Croagunk was first seen resting outside a supermarket. When Meowth emerged from it, Croagunk followed him to where Team Rocket was using a fake gym to steal unsuspecting trainers' Pokémon. While their plan was going badly, as it required Jessie to win, and her Dustox kept losing, she decided to use Croagunk and soon won many battles.
After Ash Ketchum and his friends entered the gym, Croagunk lost against Ash's Aipom. Team Rocket resorted to grabbing Ash's Pikachu and running off, leaving Croagunk behind in the process. Brock was the first to notice Croagunk and, feeling a connection, Croagunk later willingly went into Brock's Poké Ball.
Like Brock's Bonsly, Croagunk has attacked Brock in order to continue the series' running gag of keeping Brock away from the girls who are the objects of his affection. When doing this, it usually uses Poison Jab. Many fans think Croagunk could be jealous or possessive.
It have some unique characterization, as it acted alone many times. Its actions were sometimes part of an episode plot. Its way to fight is unique. In DP014, it doesn't move and defeats Seviper without moving, but fall knocked-out anyway. It does this in several other situations.
Croagunk has been shown to have its own pace for things like eating, attacking, or following Brock. Similar to Ash's Treecko, it is also a bit of a loner, preferring to sit alone when eating or just resting. In DP032, it didn't like the sweet taste of honey, which may imply its nature is brave, relaxed, quiet or sassy. This makes sense, considering a nature which dislikes sweet flavors has a lowered amount of speed.
It is a very powerful Pokémon as demonstrated in its debut episode where it beat many trainers while it was with Jessie. It has since become Brock's main battling Pokémon and has proved its power again and again. It seems to have a rivalry developing with one of the other strength-oriented Pokémon on the cast, Dawn's Buizel.
It also has good hearing, as it could hear Buneary in the bush in DP009 and Team Rocket attacking Oreburgh Gym in DP018. It is sometimes very aware of many strange or some unusual situations; in DP043, it literally saves the day when it jabs Brock and saves him from Mismagius's illusions. This may be due to the fact it has the Anticipation ability, which warns of the foes super-effective moves.
It also can do a remarkable impression of a Politoed, as seen in DP033, where its convincing cosplay and acting won a Pokémon Cosplay Competition.
