Slowking first appeared as one of the main characters in The Power of One. This talking Slowking lived on Shamouti Island, and was the guardian of the shrine located on the island. He gave Ash advice on where to find the Ice, Thunder and Fire Spheres. He later praised the Team Rocket trio, upset that no-one saw them being heroes, telling them that their heroic actions did not go unnoticed.

Slowking appeared again in Slowking's Day, showing what he does on a daily basis. It was revealed that his interests include coconuts, taking walks, flowers, afternoon naps, the ocean, friends, and the sunset.
