Release information
This card originated in the EX FireRed & LeafGreen expansion with artwork done by Nakaoka. This print was released again in the EX Delta Species and EX Power Keepers expansions. It as then released in the Stormfront expansion with new artwork by Kent Kanetsuna. It was later released as an Item card in the Emerging Powers expansion, originating from the White Collection, with new artwork by 5ban Graphics. This print was also included as part of the Boundaries Crossed in English, and in the Battle Strength Decks, the Battle Theme Deck: Victini, the Battle Gift Set: Thundurus vs Tornadus, the Keldeo Battle Strength Deck, and the Mewtwo vs Genesect Deck Kit in Japanese.
During the XY Series, Great Ball was released with new artwork by Toyste Beach in the English XY expansion, first originating from the Japanese Xerneas and Yveltal Half Decks. An unnumbered XY-P Promotional print of this artwork will be released as one of five cards for the Pokémon Card Game Deck Building Seminar being held in Japanese Pokémon Centers from October 25-November 16, 2014 for elementary school-aged children wishing to learn more about deck building.

Origin
The Great Ball is a type of Poké Ball in the Pokémon games, which has an improved capture rate over the regular Poké Ball. The fact that this card doesn't require a coin flip to work, whereas the Poké Ball card did, might be a reference to this fact.
