Petalburg City
Template:Infobox town Petalburg City (Japanese: トウカシティ Touka City) is located in southern Hoenn. The town's motto is "Where People Mingle With Nature".
Norman, the father of the main character in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald is the Petalburg Gym Leader. He uses Normal-type Pokémon and gives out the Balancebadge.
The Pokémon Center has a man near the PC who will let players put key words on their Trainer cards.
When a player first arrives at this city and talks to Norman, a boy named Wally will come in asking for help to catch a Pokémon. Using Zigzagoon, a Pokémon Norman lends, and the player's support, Wally catches his first Pokémon: a Ralts. Later on in the game, Wally becomes the main rival, while the alternate-gender choice (Brendan or May) returns to Littleroot Town to help his/her father. Wally's house is located in the west section of the town, next door to the Gym.
East of Petalburg City is Route 102 and Oldale Town. To the west is Route 104 where Mr. Briney's Cottage and the Petalburg Woods are found.
In the Pokémon anime, Petalburg City has a sister city to the north of it called North Petalburg. It is also the hometown of Norman, May, Max, and Caroline.
Demographics
The population of Petalburg City is 25. This is a fairly high number in the Pokémon games, and may be attributed to the fact that it sits right near Hoenn's west coast.
Trivia
- A fully coded testmap named Blütenburg City was a data placeholder in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (much like Sevii Isle 8 and 9), and can be seen by hacking into the games code; there it much looks like Glitch City. The testmap shows overworld sprites for Leaf, Sailors, Guitarists, Bug Catchers, Ladies and a Big Lapras doll.
- In the Super Mario series game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, there is a town named Petalburg.
Name origin
Petalburg is a combination of petal, part of a flower, and burg, a common place name derived from German.
