Pokémon Sun (Japanese: ポケットモンスターサン Pocket Monsters Sun) and Pokémon Y (Japanese: ポケットモンスタームーン Pocket Monsters Moon) are the primary paired versions of Generation VII. The games will be released on the Nintendo 3DS.

Announced on the 20th Anniversary of Pokémon Red and Green, February 27, 2016 at 12 am JST during a worldwide announcement by Satoru Iwata through Nintendo Direct, the paired versions were released worldwide in Holiday 2016. All copies of the game are playable in nine languages: Japanese, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Compatibility

The games will be compatible with the Virtual Console copies of the Generation I games by way of Pokémon Bank.
