Artwork

Could someone please edit the artwork for this Pokémon, because it looks a little badly cropped, due to the yellow in the hand. Pawsrent 23:03, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Be patient young one, these are directly cropped from the magazine scans, we're going to have to wait for better artwork. Jello 23:21, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Name

I'm not sure about the validity of the name origin, but if it is correct, why don't we cut out the middle-man and rename the article "Ronculus?" Wargle's article isn't "Warugaru." BulbaB 14:42, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

The name could also be romanized as "Rancluse", the cluse coming from the word recluse, which means someone who lives in seclusion or solitude, it could be a reference to the fact that the white body is inside the green....ectoplasm or energy or whatever it could possibly be. As you can see romanization's are never absolute. Because of this, its best to wait for official romanization's or just plain out wait for english names. --Yunophobia 00:34, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Version Exclusive and height correction

According to the official Black and White website, Rankurusu will be exclusive to White version. Also according to the site, Rankurusu is 1.0m, not 1.6m

Name origin

The article says that its name comes from ran (disorder), but it could also be from ranma (chaos). --Shiny Noctowl 16:53, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

It seems to me that Rankurusu's name is the word "rankless", as in, "without rank". Being the Amplification Pokémon (presumably amplifying other things), perhaps its own actual "rank" (strength, whatever) is unknown, hence the name. Alternatively, it could come from "rancorous", meaning "showing deep-seated resentment". These depend on the story behind Rankurusu, but they sound interesting enough to be true. ~ Serial Colour 19:30, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm the one who put ran, because that's the kanji used in ranma. I looked at the meaning of both kanji and it's the ran in ranma that gives the word its meaning. --Phantomjunkie 22:35, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Might as well continue with the english name here. I haven't yet seen anything in the design or abilities that makes me think of anything reuniting, and this is the Gen V pokemon I've paid attention to all the way from the start of coverage. In fact, division springs to mind. PLA 09:35, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

sorry if I put this in the wrong place but im new here Anyway, I think it should be noted in the trivia that though the pokedex entry states that Reuniclus amplifies its powers by holding hands, it cant learn the move helping hand. i dont know how to make it rigth so it would be great if someone could do it for me.Artikulerix 12:47, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Another thought on the English name... "clus" could come from "cluster," perhaps? Slightly closer match than "homunculus" or "nucleus," although it's equally likely that they just ditched a letter from "homunculus" so it'd roll off the tongue better. Constantmotion 18:03, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Sprite

I've taken the image from the updated site, edited it a bit, and shazam, we have (What I think is) a half-assed attempt at a sprite~

Here ya' are

Hope it helps, and sorry if it's not in good enough quality :/- unsigned comment from Omnis (talkcontribs)

Origin

Rankurusu appears to be based on a Tardigrade and Homunculus. --Green Kricketune 22:10, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Where on earth are you getting the connection to the Tardigrade from?? That seems like speculation to me, it doesn't seem to fit well at all with this Pokemon. --Oleandervine 23:38, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
I think Green Kricketune is right, it's based on a Homunculus. The reason it's called "Amplification" pokemon as far as I can see, is because a Homunuculus also refers to a model of a human body where certain sensory parts, such as Hands, Ears, Mouth etc. are made larger in proportion to how sensitive they are (Image) - they are in a sense "Amplified", though I can't help wonder if the translation may be a bit off without the Psychological context. Design wise, it explains why the small body inside is fairly small, yet the gooey body is large, the hands and ears bigger than the rest of the body. The design itself is probably based on the idea that there is a small human inside eggs and sperm, hence the plasma thing it's got going on. It's almost worth mentioning that an anime called "Ghost Hound" addressed this idea too, with people having Out Of Body Experiences, where they'd fall asleep and their homunculus would emerge to float around a little dream-world - the homunculus looked like blobby/gooey/plasma-y baby type thing, with little oddly coloured organs and spheres inside the body. That's very similar to the design of Rankurusu. From this, it also seems the more likely romanisation is going to be "Ranculus" or "Lanculus" N-Denizen 13:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I said that it was based on a Tardigrade for it's gelatinous structure, bear-like face in the homunculus, and it's abilities, Magic Guard and Dust-Proof, respectively, refer to it's adaptability and it's position as a polyextremophile. Also, thanks for the Support, N-Denizen! Green Kricketune 14:47, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

The Tardigrade analogy is also a good one, I have to say. With the bear features, and its survival abilities, that also makes sense. A pokemon being inspired by a creature that can survive in a vacuum is very likely, too, it provides a direct analogy to its Magic Guard and Dust Proof abilities. When it curls up, it looks like Rankurusu's main body, as well. So I guess this is like...a fusion of sorts? That's pretty cool, does it explain the first part of its name, though? N-Denizen 15:52, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually, if "Ranma" means "Chaos", then that could be it. Tardigrades can survive in chaotic conditions, but that's a wild guess N-Denizen 16:00, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, the first thing I thought when I saw it was "That looks like a water bear." It should definitely be mentioned alongside the whole homunuculus thing. --Corn 07:45, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

I pretty sure it's abilities refer to the cytoplasm, as it serves as a protective barrier for a cell's organelles. I'll keep in the Homunculus part when I edit, because it still is a possibility. Actually, I'm now convinced it has inspiration from the homunculus with so much evidence to back it up, but I feel that the cell part should be mentioned first, as it's pre-evolutions have nothing to do with homunculi. I seriously doubt it's based off that bug, though. I feel like removing that, as all the evidence I see to back it up just seems to be stuff that backs up a cell. Actually, it even makes it seem more like it took inspiration from a gummy bear. I also don't see it's resemblance to Reuniclus when it curls up. Zachmac 08:54, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Ranculus

Please move, thanks!--immewnitythemew 16:05, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Please not. They are pocketmonsters.net's fansubs.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 12:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
... What was the point of replying to this? It's old and done with. You would have been better off going directly to Immewnity's page to talk about it.--ケンジガール 21:13, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Origin

Reuniclus' structure resembles a water molecule, the three 'main' parts of it's being resembles a molecular structure. The large core (the body) is refering to oxygen, since oxygen is a larger atom than hydrogen. The two smaller, red orbs at the end of it's 'arms', the red orbs might symbolize the positive charged protons/hydrogen atoms. Also it's shell might refer to the electron shell that surronds molecular structures. Also a part of the name, Reuniclus, might come from the word molecule. The remaining parts might be a reference to the atomic number of oxygen, 8, just like Duosion has an extra 'part' which might symbolize the atomic number of hydrogen, 1. The extra 'parts' might also resemble some other atoms, which are attracted by the chemical polarity of the atoms. Chemical polarity is a trait, that water molecules are famous for, or the electrons around the atoms. (Celebi 21 14:10, 23 June 2011 (UTC))

Nucleus

Maybe a bit weird, but is the nucleus something of the brain of a cell like Reuniclus? That said where is it in it's anatomy? Maybe it's the only pokémon with it's brain in it's arms or something like that? Please help me discouver! Nickvang 17:30, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Do you mean the real Nucleus? A real Nucleus is the part of a cell that stores Genetic material, such as DNA. Or are you asking if Reuniclus's brain IS a nucleus? I find that highly unlikely. I think Reuniclus is just like any other living organism and is composed of billions of cells, I don't think it IS one. May be based on a cell, of course. But to say it's brain is a nucleus is a little bit of a stretch. And its head is big enough that I think it could fit a brain in there. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 19:10, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Image compressed?

What is with the image compression on this page and many? It makes the Pokemon look REALLY weird. Pinkolol16 (talk) 19:57, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

The images are being made square. Wait till Bulbapedia catches up with the archives and they'll be back to normal. Ataro (talk) 22:00, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Trivia suggestion?

Is it worth noting that reuniclus' family line is the only one capable of learning thunder, but not thunderbolt? It's probably to contrast with gothitelle's family line who can learn thunderbolt but not thunder, but that characteristic is shared with so many other pokemon. Pale green?

The Biology section claims its body is pale green, but I always assumed it was white surrounded by transparent green gel. To be honest, I can't really "read" it as actually being pale green at all. Brock Kent (talk) 00:43, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
