So do these games still have the problem that it deletes your data if you load it up on the opposite handheld (if DS, on the Advance, if on the Advance, on the DS)? An0nymous 02:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

That's Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. --TTEchidna 03:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

This article needs more information.

Johto starters

I am trying to get Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile without cheat codes. How does one obtain them in this game? Sneedly94 18:48, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Gotta trade from Colo/XD/Emerald. Colo you can get the middle forms of them all, XD you can get one of the three for beating Mt. Battle, and Emerald you get a choice of one for finishing the Hoenn Dex. TTEchidna 02:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
You could also try trading with Gold/Silver/Crystal. - unsigned comment from Cdt888 (talkcontribs)
Uh, no, because GSC can't trade with FRLG. Gen I and II can trade, Gen III can send forward to Gen IV, but I/II can't do anything with III/IV. TTEchidnaGSDS! 06:00, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Moltres' old nest is here...

If you go to victory road and go to the spot where Moltres was in the original games, there in a burnt crater. This is most likely suppose to be it's old nest from the original games before it moved to the sevii islands. Shouldn't this be mentioned along with the fact that Moltres was moved?--Pkmn 20:24, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I never noticed that o: I think it should be mentioned... Takoto 20:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Buy it or Die

I couldn't believe it, but it's actually there. Offset 0x71A92F in FireRed (BPRE). --Kyoufu Kawa 13:46, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Checked that offset, but it's empty. hfc2X 18:18, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Nintendo of America addition? Or translation from the Japanese version? Pokemon lover 15:27, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Me and Andrea did some comparing. His Fire Red 1.0 didn't have it, and mine did. The original Auroraticket message is at 0x17FC5F, but is repointed, copied and expanded at 0x71A23D, which is the start of a large block of free space, leaving the original unused. This is why Hfc2x couldn't find anything but empty space. The "Buy it or Die" ROMs are technically just quick and easy hacks. Still, it's fairly innocious and the guy does say having an Auroraticket is rare. I think the word "some" would be appropriate. --Kyoufu Kawa 17:25, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Here's something i found with it:

CherryParanoia 22:24, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Glitch?

I bought a LG at Game, yet, it's glitched:

  • Pokémon names are only five characters (Blastoise → BLAST)
  • You can only have a 5 letter long name. (George → GEORG}
  • Pokémon nicknames can only be 5 letters in length.
  • Your rival swears, about you and your Pokémon.
  • The text doesn't make sense.
  • The Gym Leaders had their Japanese names.
  • Pokémon obtained through trade would have Japanese characters.
  • The game would sometimes delete the save file.

Mentionable? SD13 Simpsondude13>SD13 Talk 16:05, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a hack/fan translation. The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 00:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Where exactly did you buy this game?--The Kkllnnator サンタクロース 00:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, It wasn't me who bought it. I think my mum got it from Game.- unsigned comment from Simpsonsdude13 (talkcontribs)
Unfortunately, its probably somones hack. I had an emerald that did the same thing, but it was a flash cartridge one off of an emulatorDCM((曲奇饼妖怪Spy on My Edits))
Yeah, most probably it's a fan-made translation out of a Japanese game, in the Japanese games all names are no more than 5 characters long. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 14:01, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I think you should claim the game at the store and make them give you an original Pokémon LeafGreen because that one is hacked. Pokemon lover 15:22, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Transfer from Red/Green (Gen 1) to FR/LG (Gen 3).

Somone told me it is possible to make Pokémon trade from Red or Green to FireRed or LeafGreen. Is this true? He said that is why--Nintendo made FR/LG (to bring your previous Pokémon to Gen 3). I can't find this anywhere, I tried to tell him that I don't think it is possible but he told me he has seen numerous people do it... Sivart345 17:21, 24 February 2009 (UTC)--

your friend is wrong, you can't transfer Pokémon from red and green to any newer games UltamateCharizard 19:36, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
That's what I thought. Sivart345 23:47, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Switching Pokemon

I couldn't find any mention about this in the article, and I don't think it's a glitch... but in all previous pokemon games (as well as all future games I've played) you get the option to switch your pokemon after you cause your opponent's pokemon to faint, correct? so why don't they allow this in firered/leafgreen?--BloPant 04:13, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

They do. It's a setting on the Options. "Set" makes it so that you can't switch out when your opponent does. "Shift" makes it so that you can. I want to say it's called Battle Style. --PhantomJunkie 04:16, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
That did it. Serves me right for not checking the options on a "new" used copy. thanks!--BloPant 04:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem! But next time, it would probably be better to post that in the forums, not on the talk page for the game. xD --PhantomJunkie 04:38, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. however it was my first time playing that version. I had thought it was a missed change that could have been added to the article.--BloPant 05:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

STAB?

should it be mentioned that these are the only pokemon games where it's possible to deal super effective damage but not possible to deal damage with STAB? what with the addition of dark-type moves but no dark-type pokemon. steel possibly also fits, not sure about magnemite's learnset. - unsigned comment from Slimmy (talkcontribs)

Murkrow and Sneasel can be caught in the Sevii Islands. There is also Tyranitar, which can be evolved from Larvitar, and the Pokémon which can be traded from Hoenn. So it is possible to deal STAB with the Dark-type. —darklordtrom 07:01, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Cross-Generation before National Pokedex?

In the Trvia it says that Gen2 Pokemon are not prevented from evolving into Gen1 Pokemon (before National Pokedex is obtained. Once you have this, there are no limits).

However, I've found it impossible to get a Gen2 Pokemon onto the game before obtaining the National Pokedex. I wanted to put the surfing Pichu (from Pokemon Box) onto a japanese LeafGreen but the game simply rejected eggs and the Pichu. Once the Pichu was evolved to Pikachu, it could be traded. Of course, I used another Kanto-edition (as trading from Hoenn is not possible at all before Nationaldex).

So I'd like to know whether the Gen2-Pokemon was put there with cheating or whether I missed something. Either way, It could be added to the article. --TCCPhreak 11:04, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is no way to trade Gen II Pokémon in pre-NDex without cheating. --SnorlaxMonster 11:15, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
My brother's Golbat tried to evolve at around the fifth Gym and the game wouldn't let it until he had the national dex. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 11:17, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Pokémon WaterBlue Version

QUOTE : A trademark was filed for "Pokémon WaterBlue Version", however, indicating that this renaming may have been considered.

I think this needs some sourcing. Is there a webpage referencing the Pokémon trademarks Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed ? InvocK 13:15, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Translation

Are we sure that the official trademake for the japanese games is Firered and Leafgreen? Wouldn't it make sence if the name was FireRed and LeafGreen, thats what I think the official translation is, and fits with the name HeartGold and SoulSilver. Iml908 (talk) 21:46, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

I have this game on my emulator but it always says something like "The 1m curcitboard is not installed" on fire red and on leaf green it will not let me save it says save error please extange the backup memory and I have to always do a save state what is^ and why does it say that. kingsisle

I am assuming that this means that it cannot find the battery containing the memory, included in each cartridge. Also, you may not be aware but these comments should go on the forum (if discussing illegal copies of games is allowed). Pikachu Bros. (talk) 16:28, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

I don't know where my dad got the rom from but romulation is not a illegal downloading site it has Roms that were donated to the site and they remove games that the developer does not want to be up for download.kingsisle

V1.0 compared to v1.1

Due to the article mentioning the pokedex typographical errors, I was able to learn I have v1.0 of both FireRed and LeafGreen. What I found interesting about playing through the games though, is that numerous hidden items listed on the various Bulbapedia pages (such as Mt. Moon and Bond Bridge) do not exist. I am first off curious if anyone else has noticed this version difference, and if such a thing is worth adding a section and/or updating the various route pages as to which items are version exclusive. - unsigned comment from Hobbs678 (talkcontribs)

Split

Thanks for take my suggestion in ORAS section, can do the same to the changes from original games, please --HoopsterJohn (talk) 18:33, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

The title of the page should stay the same.

It has been suggested that the title of this article be renamed "Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen." I'm okay with the suggestion, but even though other territories don't use the word "version," North America does, so we should refer to them by their full North American names. Thank you.
