A Darkinium Z in the anime
Team Rocket obtained a Darkinium Z in A Team-on-Team Tussle!, which some Team Skull Grunts also tried to obtain from a nest of Alolan Rattata and Raticate, with one of the Raticate being a Totem Pokémon. The same Z-Crystal reappeared in Acting True to Form!, where Jessie and James believed that they could use it with the Alolan Meowth they had just met. However, they were dismayed upon being told that they would also need a Z-Ring to do so. They were finally able to perform Black Hole Eclipse with James's Mareanie in SM073 after obtaining a Z-Power Ring from Nanu.
A full set of replicas of the type-specific Z-Crystals, including the Darkinium Z, also appeared in A Team-on-Team Tussle!, where they were shown to Ash and his classmates by Professor Kukui.
