Trainer House
The Trainer House is a two-storey building, located in Viridian City, in the Kanto region of the Generation II games. Previously, in the Generation I games, and later on in the remakes of Red and Blue, in the Generation III games, FireRed and LeafGreen, this building was the location of Kanto's Pokémon academy. The Violet City academy in Johto, which is run by Earl, served as the replacement for the building in Gold and Silver, and Crystal.
On entry, the first floor has a few people and a small desk. Speaking to the woman behind the desk enables entry into the lower basement, where a lone trainer can be found. Who this trainer is depends on one thing in your game:
- If you have not used the Mystery Gift function before on your save file, the person you meet is a male trainer called Cal. His sprite is of the male main character, and his squad consists of a Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr, all at Level 50.
- However, if you have not used the Mystery Gift, you will battle the last trainer you used the option with, no matter how long ago you mystery gifted. The sprite will be of the male main character, even if the game you last used this with was a female on Crystal. Their name will be the same, as will there squad, right down to the levels, move sets and items held.
Both battles are computer controlled, meaning the second battle will be different to a battle you may fight with the same trainer, across a Link cable. However, unlike linked battles, experience points are available, along with a cash prize. The amount of experience points and cash vary depending on the squad of the trainer. Against Cal, the squad never changes, so neither will the cash prize or experience earned.
The lower room can only be accessed once each day, meaning no matter if you Mystery Gift later in the day that you fought in the Trainer House, you cannot battle the new trainer until the next day.
