Ash's Gengar (Japanese: サトシのゲンガー Satoshi's Gangar) was the second Pokémon caught by Ash in the new series, and his fifty-fourth overall.

History

Pre-series

As revealed in SS016, before the start of the new series, Gengar had a Trainer who, due to his misfortunes, decided to abandon him in the place where the Sakuragi Institute is now located. It spent several days waiting for its Trainer.

New series

As a wild Pokémon

Gengar first appeared in SS011, where it was seen causing trouble at the Sakuragi Institute. Gengar was eventually defeated when Koharu commanded Yamper to use Spark, causing it to flee. It was later seen at the end of the episode, perched atop of the Institute.

Gengar reappeared in SS014, where it phased through the wall and watched Ash, Go, and their Pokémon when they returned from Unova.

It reappeared in SS016 where it was again causing problems at the institute. By the end of the episode it bonded with Ash Who saved it from team rocket and thus allowed him to catch it .
