This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it was part of a special vending sheet available at the World Hobby Fair in 1998, along with Pikachu and Mew. The English version of the card was released through Nintendo Power Magazine in April 2000. It was later reprinted in Legendary Collection.
Trivia
- Wizards of the Coast ran a competition to illustrate a Pokémon card. The winning entry by Christopher Rush replaced the Japanese artwork, originally done by Ken Sugimori. The explanation behind this was to probably ease confusion that may have arose between distinguishing this card from Mewtwo, as their artwork is very similar.
