Big and Small (Pinball)
Big (Japanese: ビッグ Big) and Small (Japanese: スモール Small) are luck-based prizes awarded in the Slot Mode of Pokémon Pinball and Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. Both prizes simply increase the current score: "Big" awards millions of points, while "Small" awards hundreds of points.
Terminology
The English words "Big" and "Small" are used not only in the English version, but also in the Japanese version of both Pokémon Pinball and Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire.
The Japanese katakana words "ビッグ" (Big) and "スモール" (Small) appear in the Japanese manual of Pokémon Pinball. However, these katakana words are not used in-game, and don't appear in the Japanese manual of Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire.
Mechanics
Activating Big or Small
If the player turns on the four Hole Lights (which are located at the bottom of all Pinball tables) by touching them with the ball, the Center Hole at the middle of the table opens, while the "Slot" image appears in the Pokémon Panel (located below the Center Hole). At this point, if the ball enters the Center Hole, the Slot Mode begins. Big and Small are among various other prizes available from the Slot Mode (other prizes include: upgrading the Poké Ball, starting Catch 'em Mode to catch a Pokémon, etc.) The exact prize received is unknown until the Big or Small is awarded.
