Meowth and Pikachu dancing, in the Polka O Dolka ending theme

KrazyShipping, the belief in romantic love between Meowth and Pikachu, was named for Krazy Kat, a comic strip from the early 20th century about a cat who was in love with a mouse, while the mouse hated the cat.

KrazyShipping is one of the more popular pairings involving actual Pokémon. Though Meowth, along with Jessie and James, is actively trying to capture Pikachu for Giovanni, there have been a few hints that he may harbour secret feelings for Pikachu. In the episode Bound for Trouble, which is considered the most notable source for Krazyshipping evidence by most fans, they are actually very nice to each other.

Evidence

In Island of the Giant Pokémon, both Jessie and James's Pokémon, as well as Ash's Pokémon, get separated from their Trainers and must find their way back. Although Meowth tries to harass everyone at first, when he gets tied up, Pikachu unties him. Afterward, Meowth tries to be nice to everyone else.

In the episode Bound for Trouble, Meowth and Pikachu are tied together and get lost. At first Pikachu is very mistrusting of Meowth, but the tension eventually losens up after they fight a giant Rhydon together. They end up getting along so well that they share an apple and Pikachu falls asleep in Meowth's lap. Meowth, still thinking Pikachu is awake, tells him that he wished things were different so they could be friends, and asks him to join Team Rocket.

Their clones clone and Meowthtwo appear to be very good friends. In Mewtwo Returns, the four of them get along very well. Also, when Meowth considers selflessly joining the fight to save Mewtwo and the other pokémon, he first asks Pikachu if he should do so, and does it upon his approval.

In A Scare to Remember, Pikachu gets amnesia and is actually caught by the Rocket trio. Although Meowth does trick Pikachu into thinking it was raised by Team Rocket, throughout the episode, Meowth admits he feels guilty about tricking Pikachu.

In Hoenn Alone!, when Meowth stands up for Pikachu, Pikachu smiles at Meowth, but falls over when Pikachu realizes he was talking about Team Rocket instead of Ash.

In the Polka O Dolka ending, Meowth and Pikachu are seen double dancing together.

Trivia

  • In the games, both Meowth and Pikachu are in the Field Egg Group, and therefore they can breed. However, Ash's Pikachu and Team Rocket's Meowth cannot breed with each other, because they have the same gender.
  • Both Pokémon have, at one point, refused to evolve.
  • They both have a rivalry with their evolutionary forms: Persian for Meowth and Raichu for Pikachu.
  • Until the Eastern Unova arc, they were the only non-Unova based Pokémon in the Best Wishes anime series.
